Supreme Court ruled on transgender discrimination

I assume that people getting fired explicitly for a protected reason are very few. These rules are used in court, where the aggrieved person tries to establish that the real, unspoken reason, was a protected reason. So it's become a clear advantage to belong to a group that allows one to argue they were fired for one of those reasons.
I am pretty close to coming out as gay, just for the social advantages of it. I remember when Dewey immediately made it clear that he now knows how black people feel, after he came out. Because he now knows discrimination. I'll probably go ahead and start thinking that, too.

What gets me about that is the language implication. Some hardships are to be taken reverently (black hardships, transgender and gay hardships, illegal immigrant hardships), and other hardships are to be eye-rolled at. Dad walk out on you? Facing a drug charge? Lose your job? How much I care about that depends entirely on your skin color and sexual orientation.
We've been to the moon. We know that quarks exist. We've radically improved the lives of AIDS patients and we invented Candy Crush. Surely we're smart enough to not make the exact same class-based mistakes that 20th century history taught us so much about.

Yes, I find that those who choose political affiliations based on their self-perception of higher moral character are those who end up reveling in their contempt for the hardships of others, as long as those others are the bad people.

Years ago, during one of those mandatory sexual harassment classes, where the person drones on about the nastiness against women in the workplace and then the poor dears go home to men who mistreat them...I couldn't help myself. I had to ask the session leader if there were any...sniff, sniff...resources for men whose wives physically mistreated them at home.
