Late start as we had a late night last night with Luke home, we were all up talking late into the night… So breakfast turned into brunch…
Finley and I made Belgium Waffles with fruit compote and whipped cream from scratch. We also had Turkey Bacon and Fried Turkey Eggs. (I went all in on the Turkey Day theme).
One little issue… The Turkey bacon looked done to me, so I pulled it from the oven and took a bite. Luke said “Dad, according to the directions you’re supposed to flip it now and cook another 10 minutes…” So a small jigger of whiskey to try and kill the salmonella and I moved on. I’ve had a breakfast beer on a winter vacation a couple of times, and maybe 4 Bloody Mary’s or Mimosas with breakfast in my life, but this was my first breakfast whiskey…

Better late than never, man.
Bacon eggs and apple danish for brekky.
Traditional turkey today with a wild-rice ‘stuffing’, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, fresh cranberry sauce, gravy, and a cheesecake with strawberries on it for dessert (not a traditional choice, but a crowd favorite).

Camio’s sticky buns for breakfast, we’ll be having a Giorno del Ringraziamento - lasagna, some kind of fancy Italian bread ring and a nice Super Tuscan for dinner. Pumpkin Cheesecake Pie for dessert, bread and pie also from the incomparable Camino’s.

Turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, lobster bisque, apple pie. Catered by a Malaysian restaurant as is traditional. I had to make two trips because they didn’t include the bisque and I had to go back for it. But at least they sent an apology email and a $50 gift card as is also traditional.

Turkey will be served, however Mrs Phibes will not be joining us, she’s visiting a friend in Iowa- Thanksgiving isn’t really a thing for us but we do have a big meal. It’s my favourite holiday as there is zero pressure to do anything

Oh don’t worry I’m eating alright. What I meant is that we don’t have the large family expectations that others are saddled with as none of the extended family is in the US. There’s an upside and a downside….

I know. I just meant that was the only expectation.

I haven't tried to make these, but I have made some of her recommended homemade backpacker meals and they turned out pretty good.

Breakfast this morning at Famous Toastery. Country ham omelet, grits, excellent coffee. I do love southern cooking.

Truly authentic Mexican street tacos. When I say authentic I mean meat, onions, radishes and cilantro. Yum. I had an Al pastor, a lengua, a cane an and something I’d never heard of, suadero. It’s a cut of beef we don’t see here.
