Taking On The Mouse

This is a good case of doing something for publicity and not thinking it to the long term.
Since this will not take effect for one year, I will predict that sometime over the next year, the law will very very quietly be cancelled.
Disney will claim victory. Florida politicians will claim victory in that they will say that Disney will keep out of politics. And, all will be back to where it was.
-
Doubt it.
The deal will get reworked. It's not going back to the original deal.
Florida has the leverage. While they stand to acquire a billion dollar expenditure, how much money do you think Disney has tied up into the Disneyworld complex?
DeSantis slapped the mouse's nose and it worked. He gained political capital, Disney might be a little less likely to poke their nose outside of their company business and at the end of the day, a new deal will be struck to the benefit of both parties.

This was from a couple of weeks ago. It includes Ben talking about a Trans man who is horrified over the "glitter bomb" of the transphilic recruitment on the internet...

Well, if you want to see what Disney employees think about this …

Link to videoWatch to the end. Virtually no likewise participation on the west coast Disney property. Media anecdotes of protests are, as always, only in service of whatever is being protested about. Protests are in fact not newsworthy per se. The narrative being supported is only sometimes newsworthy.

Those are disney employees found by NBC that want disney to encourage kindergarten students to be taught about alternate lifestyles.
Fortunately, very few disney employees support this stupid idea.

You think we’re going for his sake? We’re really going for the 50 year old, 45 year old, and the 19 year old!
Seriously? We think he will enjoy it. He won’t remember it, but he will have fun. When we had visited Lucas back in February, it was warm enough that we all went to Busch Gardens for the day. Finley enjoyed the toddler rides very much. Beyond that, there’s so much to see and experience… The parades, the fireworks show, and just the general sights are fun for everybody. There are also play areas that we can alternate taking him to while the other adults go on a bigger ride.
Aw I mentioned above, he won’t really remember it, but we will!

Republican lawmakers on Monday released a new plan: Rename the district and let Gov. Ron DeSantis choose the people in charge. …
https://www.myfloridahouse.gov/Sections/Bills/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=77294
The last legislative attempt to dissolve the special district tanked (it never address the $1 Billion bond owed by the district). This new plan gave up on dissolving the district; it seeks to instead (1) rename the district, (2) let the governor appoint the board, and (3) strip certain powers from the district (e.g., powers concerning building airport, building nuclear power plant, eminent domain).
Now I suppose we wait and see whether/how this new plan holds up.

Didn't read the article, but saw a headline that basically said that Disney is going to just wait for DeSantis to run for President and things will probably go back to the way they were before.

There is a lot of waiting… Not just on DeSantis. A lot of people want to see what way Iger goes.
We tried watching 2 new Disney Shows/Movies recently. Willow was a show that I was really looking forward to. The 1st episode was like teenage lesbian fanfic. The gratuitous makeout scene between the two teenage female protagonists looked like it was written to appeal to 45 year old male porn addicted pervs. We turned it off before we ever got to Warwick Davis and don’t really feel the need yo watch any more. The streaming numbers for the show are abysmal.
The next movie we went to watch was the gag worthy Strange World. We got through 10 minutes and turned that off. It completely bombed in the box office, as well.
The tide is changing. Let’s see how Iger reacts.
