You probably remember me talking about my (now) 26 year old cat named Miss Kitty, and how a year or two ago we thought she was dying.. she ended up perking up and has lived quite happily so ce then, even though she stumbled a lot due to her age.

Last night I found her laying in her litter box in a big puddle of pee, too weak to get out of the box by herself. She has dried cat litter stuck all in her hair, all over.. she's a Himalayan so she has and undercoat of very fine fur, no way to get the litter out of it even if she was able to go through it.

Normally she eats 3 of the little cans of cat food every day. Today she only ate a few bites, and that was because Sarah hand fed her while she was laying on a blanket in the living room that we put her on. She can't walk. Too weak, and keeps falling o er.

Miss Kitty loves for me to pick her up and hold her in my lap, and rub her head. About an hour ago after looking at me for a long time, so weak she couldn't hardly hold her head up she made the Herculean effort to get across the room to my chair wanting me to hold her. She's asleep on my chest now for the last hour or so. That's where she wants to be.

Being a holiday the vet was closed. If she lives through the night we will be taking her to be put to sleep in the morning.

Larry that is tough to read, really sorry to hear of her state of health. 26 years is a remarkably long time, especially for a pet. Sorry, man. It’s nice to know she’s curled up on you tonight.

Just yesterday she was able to walk to the kitchen and stand at her food dish meowing to be fed like always, could walk to me and beg to get in my lap, everything was normal. Then last night she peed a big puddle in the kitchen, which she would never do if she could have made it to her bedroom and her litter pan. Then I found her laying in the litter pan in wet litter, and she's gone downhill fast from there.

Larry, at age 26, she has lived long and very well. Good for you to given her so many good years. That's just remarkable for a kitty to live so long. God bless both the kitty and you.

I’m sorry Larry. That’s sad. Brenda’s right though.

Tough thing to go through, indeed, Larry. When a pet has been with you for so long, they become part of you. I remember you talking about Cooter (that was his name, wasn't it?) and how hard it was.

I'm pretty sure she was asleep. She had tried to scratch an itch maybe ten minutes before I checked her and found she had died, then laid her head down again like she had gone to sleep.

I'm going to miss her. I dearly loved that cat.

Yes, Cooter. He was something... he loved me like dogs love you. You knew that he welcomed your petting him, but his love was just for me.

A funny story about Miss Kitty... up until about a year ago when my dog Booger showed up, every time I went outside Miss Kitty would go sit by the floor to ceiling windows and watch me leave. When she heard my car pull up again she would come running to the door (which is also framed glass) and watch as I came into the house, wanting me to pick her up and pet her. Sometimes she would just sit at the door looking out and wait the entire time I was gone. There were many times she would sit by the door for hours and never leave her spot until I got back home.

Miss Kitty lived a life filled with love. She had her own bedroom, her own bathroom, she ate her favorite brand of food, a fresh little co trainer was opened and given to her any time she wanted to eat. She never wanted for anything - whether it was material, or loved on. I'm going to miss her, but I am at peace with it because she's better off.
