"Some employers aren’t ready to impose mandates but may still penalize workers for not getting vaccinated, possibly by requiring them to pay an insurance surcharge costing several hundred dollars a year."

I am all for making the unvaccinated pay higher insurance rates! These are the type of legitimate steps that can and should be taken. Not just a couple hundred dollars, either… Think smoker premiums…
I also would like to see them do away with the free vaccinations for adults. If you are going to get the shot post September 1, expect to pay…

Delta airlines announced various measures that penalize the employees who refuse to get vaccinated, including charging them an extra $200/month each on their healthcare insurance premiums starting in November, and refusing to extend “COVID pay protection” (whatever that is) to the unvaccinated.

Again, no problem, though $2400 a year seems high.
I am curious as to how the unions respond.

It’s a win over mandated vaccines. That door could be opened wide in a dispute.

Above and beyond what they require for overweight people receiving just about any treatment for any of the hundreds of conditions associated with that weight?

They pay via taxes on cigarettes. Bought a pack lately?
Also study the money given to healthcare on tobacco settlements.

the taxes doesn’t go to healthcare…

Great… Sue China the same way that the tobacco companies were sued.

We seem to be missing the fundamentals of insurance - shared risk.

Not at all - if you're under 25 or you have a car accident, your premium goes up.
Outside of healthcare, insurance companies frequently charge based at least partially on the level of risk exposure.

It's still shared risk adjusted. The principle remains the same.

Ok, some of the Federal Taxes are applied to CHIP. They still aren't being used to address the healthcare costs directly related to smoking. And it's still irrelevant to the entire fucking conversation about insurance companies charging coshares for unvaccinated COVID illness costs...

Which, as I've said, is perfectly understandable, and I encourage a higher premium (within reasonable limits compared to the actual expenses incurred) for the unvaccinated.
Now, the other question I have is how do they do this midstream? You can't just change the rules on these people on a policy that was annually renewed last February... You can implement it on the next policy renewal, but you shouldn't be able to change it like this in the middle of their plan. I would like to see a legal challenge...

Wow. Please read your articles instead of picking out headlines that you think match your jihad to punish the unvaccinated.
-
They are NOT starting to charge coshares, they are starting to stop waiving the co-shares. There is a difference…
-
They are not differentiating between vaccinated and unvaccinated. All patients are going to pay…
-
The line about how insurance companies are swimming in profits right now… Wow on so many levels.
