she was making multiple mistakes before this and was frankly doing poorly.
I wasn't aware of this.
Perhaps her choice to drop out from that competition was the right thing for the team.
That's the opposite of "taking one for the team," right?
So I just read this thread because I watch the Olympics on DVR (delay) and didn't want any spoilers. Anyway, Biles went into the Olympics as the GOAT (as she has been for the last 8 years). But during the practice routines and even qualifying (and even the first event of the actual Team Finals right before she pulled out) she was really missing her landings.
If she didn't drop out, USA probably wouldn't have even made the podium IMO, so I thought she did the right thing. She had backup/alternates for a reason (and they really stepped up). For example, Jordan Chiles was given about 20 seconds notice to get ready to do the uneven bars instead of Simon, and Chiles did a great job.
Anyway... I heard the rumors going into watching this, but ultimately I thought Simon did the right thing for the team by letting someone else compete instead of her. It's not like she dropped out and therefore the team got all zeros in her place.
It also allowed some of her teammates who always got 2nd place in the individual events to win gold. Kinda sucks to always come in 2nd place when you're competing with the GOAT.
From a competition perspective, did she choke during these olympics? Yes... but did she also do the right thing for her team and teammates? Yes.
