Interesting indeed. In case anyone is wondering why they would sue the hospital system (likely hovering close to insolvency) rather than Meta (which prints money), it’s not by choice but by necessity- Meta is not subject to HIPPA rules. Only the hospital is.

heh heh... [image: 1676422733989-20221024_164530-resized.jpg] Picked up that bad boy last fall. It makes very quick work of clearing out the leaves from around the house.

@Jolly said in Smothers Brothers: Contractors are always a problem. The papermill where I briefly worked had never had a job-related fatality among their employees. They did have two deaths among contractors. The reason they use contractors is because they're cheaper. They get what, maybe a couple of hours training? A long time ago I had to go work for a week on a North Sea oil rig. The permanent workers all had a week's worth of training and practiced getting out of a helicopter capsized in a swimming pool. All I got was a lecture on how to put on my rubber suit. I checked and luckily for me that particular oil rig didn't have a swimming pool.

Just as an observation...Wife is helping her mom and dad lock in their funeral costs. $25k for the two of them, not including cemetery costs (headstone, plot, etc.) That represents almost a 10% increase in the last year or so. And...the person at the funeral home told them they are expecting another price increase in the next 60 days, due to rising costs on their end.

Much more efficient use of area, with no gaps that could cause movement damage during shipping.

@Doctor-Phibes said in The Rise of Vice: Top 10 Countries with the highest rate of incarceration Comparing to other countries really isn't the best measure. If money was no object, what is the optimal % of people incarcerated? What is the goal? The USA has 629 people per 100,000. Let's try 1,000 per 100,000 and see how that works, don't worry about the rest of the world. Also, let's remember our convicts are very comfortable and well educated compared to the rest of the world.

@jon-nyc said in Rogan and Taibbi: @George-K There was a great Advisory Opinions podcast on it. I don't remember the details but I think there basically had to be coercion - a real or perceived threat. The Twitter Files have shown quite clearly that Twitter was very comfortable saying no to the FBI, to the Trump administration, to the Biden campaign, and to congress critters. They clearly had no concern about retribution. I doubt the law is so badly worded as to specify threats only. Obviously the public trust is equally violated if some sort of compensation is given for compliance. No stick, just a carrot. Then imagine the FBI owing you a favor, and it becomes obvious that this stuff is indefensible.
