Modern, if the word really applies, Russia is an anachronism.

There's a local homeschooling group that has been very successful. They will rotate teachers depending on subject matter in many cases. Their ranks run the gamut from housewives to business people to a few former teachers to a couple of retired college professors. The kids seem to be fairly well adjusted, with some going into the workforce after graduation, some going to votech school and many doing pretty well at university. A lot of their high school aged kids also tend to work part-time jobs, as that is encouraged by the association. The reason the high school age kids can work, or the reason that multiple teachers can rotate, is that the kids only do 4 hours instruction per day, 4 days per week. That's all it takes for those kids to meet or exceed the schooling they would get in public elementary or high school. The association does encourage enrichment programs outside of the 4-hour window. Many parents mandate their children take musical instrument or voice lessons. The association provides a drama class and the kids do a couple of productions per year. Music recitals are held periodically. Science fair projects are encouraged and they compete in science fairs and literary rallies against the public school kids. There are some kids that the home school experience doesn't work for. Some kids do better away from home, but it's amazing how well most of these kids do and what solid citizens they become.

@George-K said in Ouch…: @LuFins-Dad his "argument" goes off the rails when he starts comparing "one-of" events, the menopausal woman winning a race. There are so many things that could have gone in her favor (many the kid weighed 340 lb and she is an ex-marathon runner) that he doesn't even consider, attributing it all to his perception that men and women are physically the same. By the way, Phelps doesn't have Marfan's... Absolutely. Training, physical condition at that particular moment, mental state. Testosterone is just one example of the physical advantage males have, though. The much celebrated US Women’s Soccer Team and has lost to 14 year old boys… But not recognizing that skeletal systems are different? I mean, it’s not a 100% depending on the condition of the remains, but it’s pretty damn accurate… Not a good look for Pitt, though the professor did not go to school there…

What she didn't tell you is that the brown stuff is actually pickled sparrow. Obviously, they're not going to let on to some Italian bird. I lived in Worcester for a short time. We used to visit the water treatment plants to test out our transducers. The liquid was pretty much that colour. I'm sure it's a coincidence.

That story was published the day of the shooting and doesn’t mention it. Seems like it was planned before, no?
