@Horace said in Trump's "Hunch" on COVID: @jon-nyc said in Trump's "Hunch" on COVID: What a shitty piece. I don’t even know where to begin. CFR vs IFR? WHO snapshot at a point of time being called “an expectation”, that they seem to think was supposed to be true for all time? Standard of care in March 2020(!) vs 2023? Alpha vs Omicron? Why isn’t it obvious to everyone here how stupid this piece is? Am I that much smarter than everyone? (Horace you can field that one). The numbers were always worst case scenario, not least due to dying with covid vs of Covid. You’re giving all authorities a pass for that, because apparently any motivation to find a reason for amping that number up, was pure. To call it objective science is probably optimistic. And reasonable people can disagree about the purity of the motivations for wanting to present high IFRs to the masses. Don't know about other countries. And I don't know for a fact that COVID deaths were pumped. I do know that some hospitals were using COVID and the Federal dollars that came with that diagnosis, to help their bottom lines. At least in this country.

@taiwan_girl said in Alito: Congress has no authority: @George-K said in Alito: Congress has no authority: "I know this is a controversial view, but I’m willing to say it... No provision in the Constitution gives them the authority to regulate the Supreme Court—period," he told the Wall Street Journal in an interview. Judge Kagan disagrees a bit. "Kagan said it was unclear what precisely Alito may have been asked when he told the Wall Street Journal "Congress did not create the Supreme Court" and as a result lawmakers do not have the authority to regulate the nation's highest court." But............... "....said there are clearly examples of Congress' ability to regulate the court. The liberal justice did say there were limits though, The Washington Post reported. "Of course, Congress can regulate various aspects of what the Supreme Court does," she said. "Congress funds the Supreme Court. Congress historically has made changes to the court's structure and composition. Congress has made changes to the court's appellate jurisdiction." " https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/courts/kagan-clashes-with-alito-on-supreme-court-ethics-code In context with the Schumer/Alito debate, that argument is kinda irrelevant.

To me, if it's just seven or eight episodes, it's more of a mini-series. Is there still a place for series on streaming? Say, a 25-30 minute show that drops weekly or bi-weekly, for over 20 episodes? It could be any genre... SF, comedy, anthology, etc.

I enjoyed it. It had a quirky, semi-comedy, vibe to it. The tape on the door....

Very astute move on our part. I’ve heard China is demanding/expecting a similar meeting with Japan and Korea. I wouldn’t hold my breath.

They will try to hire, and they'll be somewhat successful. They'll staff up until a bean counter notices that their personnel costs have risen dramatically - from the point right after they let the contractors go. Then the cycle starts over again. I've seen it a hundred times. It's a function of the short-sightedness of bean counters and other management critters, who much show movement even if it's in the wrong direction.

Ramaswamy will self-destruct soon. He does not have gravitas. DeSantis? It's hard to say. He has gravitas for sure, but do we want another bomb thrower? Nikki for me.

@Jolly said in 12 Cars Proven to Get to 200,000 Miles: Having said all that, more than one maker has had trouble with GDI technology. It's a carbon monster and I don't think it's worth the benefits. Yeah, it depends on whether cleaning out the carbon buildup takes place during, or after, the warranty expires, right?

Was not able to view the video, but did see an similar article to the second one you posted. CHina has a lot of problems. Saw another article that claimed (without really any data to back it up) that the China population was about 100 MM less than currently claimed and the population cliff is therefore going to happen much sooner. Obviously, I am a bit bias, but I am not sure that the current US attitude towards China should be considered hysteria. LOL
