The Trump case is selective BS. You can try, but that ruptured duck of a case just doesn't fly.

Decades ago, a colleague of mine got a phone call from a the child of a patient whose father was then out of state and needing immediate emergency surgery. The problem was that the medical staff at a Major Medical Center (MMC) weren't providing assistance due to hippa concerns. This is prior to internet, fax machines, et. The good news was the patient happened to have their name emblazoned on the side of one of Major Medical Center's primary buildings. My colleague called the CEO of the MMC and within 10 minutes, a conference call was arranged so that everything possible to assist the patient was provided. Big money helps increase quality of care.

Hard to see this stopping. So many areas of the world that are poor and citizens (hard to blame them) are moving into countries to survive. We see this everywhere. Ultimately economic solutions are the only things that'll help improve poorer countries and retain stability and minimize forced migrations, but I don't have a magic wand. For thousands of years the world has essentially been groups of cultures (aka countries). We know what french, japanese, swedish, thai, even americans (young country) look like. What they look like, what language they speak, the customs they value. But as migrants change the picture, so will the host countries and cultures. Call it racist, but it's hard to imagine places (picking randomly, like Japan) that is full of Mexicans speaking spanish. Is that still Japan? (And yes, Ax, I know that isn't happening now... but my one trip to France in 2010 (and a few trips to Italy) in 2005 and 2010 was... eye opening. Many north africans on every corner of the street. Even in Ireland, there was a very large group of Polish citizens. Everything is changing.

Good article, and visual. Ironically I had to stop myself as I began to scroll quickly through the article just reading the bold section headers. Doh. My grandpa used to write us letters when I was kid. I wouldn't mind taking that in a different directions when I'm at that age and perhaps type letters using a typewriter. Not just to be weird, but the idea that every letter was intentionally pressed down and inked onto the page seems intriguing. Similar to playing a record instead of selecting an MP3 link. Intentionality might have the same functional result, but means a bit more...

The only thing that could have made it better is if the FBI notified CNN of the raid so they could get video.

@Jolly said in Creating a Literary World: I've talked about the Honorverse, a literary world created by David Weber. It started as a female Hornblower in space premise, but does have some side stories. I was just checking...Mostly by himself, but with some collaborations, Weber has created 37 books in the Honorverse. Eighteen featuring the central character, Honor Harrington, the rest featuring other characters within the same setting. I would find that very hard to do and keep continuity. Wonder how authors do that? Those worlds are real to them. Take everything you've read, multiply it by a million and that's what they know about the story. And yeah, there is the odd Sanderson here and there. But they're rarities.

@jon-nyc Exactly. The US produces around 20 million bbls/day. That is almost double what Russia produces and just under 4 times what we produce here in Canada. The discounted WCS (upgraded Alberta heavy crude) feedstock we send to the US is blended with WTC and either made into fuel for the US market or exported by US producers at world price.
