@jon-nyc Curious if you are asked to put your pronouns on your name badge when registering at a conference, would you?

I want to just say no but there might be a situation where some broader interest of mine (say buttering up an NIH or FDA official for some result) exceeds my aversion to doing so. I don’t foresee that ever happening.

I am amazed at how often this kind of thing is discovered - MLK, as another example. I can see where plagiarism could happen in doing a language translation where a previous translator really hit the mark perfectly or if your plagiarizing a clever phrase in personal communication, but this is foolish, lazy stuff. Melania’s use of Michelle Obama’s speech was probably even sillier.

It said, please do not discuss the election inside the building.

So what do the poll workers say for election instructions if they can't talk about the election.

"Go behind that curtain. Not sure what is there, but do not look it in the eye and do not let it smell fear!"

Fleet carrier operation is systems dependent. Not one, but many smaller systems working together towards a single goal. It doesn't just happen overnight, which is why the Chinese are experiencing a steep learning curve.

It has hardly been a month since presidential candidate Donald Trump started hawking digital tokens in something called World Liberty Financial, a loosely defined lending business that mimicked some of the more spectacular failures of the last crypto bubble.

Basic questions about the business — What exactly is it? How does it work? What is newly matriculated NYU freshman Barron Trump doing as one of the company’s “Web3 Ambassadors”? — have gone unanswered.

And if the point of World Liberty Financial is simply to raise a ton of money through unregistered securities offerings, historically a pretty lucrative business in cryptoland, even that has gone awry. In the opening hours of trading, a period of maximum hype, the company has raised a paltry $12 million or so, falling far short of its $300 million goal.

Yeah, well, listen up. The thickness is just a little dial.

@George-K said in McCarthy: The DOJ White House Collusion:

It came to light in connection with the defense motions to disqualify Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis and her paramour, Nathan Wade (formerly the lead prosecutor on Trump’s case), that Wade consulted with the Biden White House Counsel’s Office during the investigation.

The average white kid does not want to spend $50K to $70K to learn about trans history from some they or them. Just not worth it. You can certainly get away with something like that at Harvard or Columbia, but at the average college if just doesnt fly and the "customers" of these colleges are just walking away. Good for them.

(On a personal note: Joan C. Williams, a professor at the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco. I was at her wedding. She married a friend of mine from H.S. She was mentioned in the article.)

Infants died at higher rates after abortion bans in the US, research shows

In the year and a half following the Supreme Court Dobbs decision that revoked the federal right to an abortion, hundreds more infants died than expected in the United States, new research shows. The vast majority of those infants had congenital anomalies, or birth defects.

Interesting how COVID erased some gains. Curious as to what the numbers will look like in three or four years.
