If you're getting really concerned about accuracy I'd be tempted to experiment with a thermocouple reader - that way the sensors (thermocouples) are really cheap to replace, the expensive bit would be the reader, which is going to last for ages. The trick is you can then keep the electronics well away from the heat, which is going to improve longevity.

@Mik said in Dad TV: Not familiar with the Ballard character, but looking forward to the new series. Those books are fun. In those books, Bosch is retired. Ballard was exiled to the late show because her sleazy captain made a pass at her and she filed a complaint. Her thing is that she knows a lot of cases she catches just get handed over to the daytime detectives who halfass them, so she kinda works on them off the books, sometimes with Bosch's help. She also lives in a van by the beach and is kinda big into surfing and paddleboarding. From what I remember, I think she's from Hawaii. Desert Star is a book with both of them in it.

I believe there were at least a few incidents like that. They kept them quiet at the time.

@Jolly said in I'm too old for this shit...: ICU nurses are just different ER nurses are in the same category. There was a twitter thread posted by some 1st year resident (that's an intern in the old parlance) who was upset when the nurse asked, "Are you sure you want to order that?" I don't recall what he wanted to order, but the comments were...uncomplimentary toward the attitude of the (as my wife would have called him) "little intern." I commented by saying, "Suppose you went ahead, and things go south. Try to explain that on AM rounds. 'Well, the nurse did have some concerns.'" The other extreme (and this happened to me) is talking to the nurse and saying, "What do you think?" That's how you make a friend forever.

@Aqua-Letifer said in Shake Shack: @Mik said in Shake Shack: I have wondered if In-N-Out could maintain the level of quality they used to have while expanding. I don't think so. It's the way of things. Look at Five Guys. Phenomenal still in the D.C. locations, decidedly "meh" everywhere else. Soon even the originals will suck. Ours closed. I miss it.

What happens when the 12-year-olds know more about sex than the most syphilitic Parisian madames of the 18th. century? I don’t know.. Can anyone know with any certainty? Should even we care what 18th century syphilis ravaged Parisian whores knew about sex or how it could relate to the preceived promiscuity of today’s youth? Why then even ask the question?
