@Copper I was telling Mrs. George about the coincidence of the moon's distance and size, relative to the sun today. I started thinking about what an eclipse on Mars would look like, considering the small size of Phobos and Deimos.

Think of a burl as being a "super knot." With a power tool, you can probably get through it with no problem. With a hand tool, a chisel, or particularly a hand plane, it'll catch and tear, potentially ruining the piece. With close-grained woods (mahogany, maple) it's not as big a problem as it is with open-grained woods (oak, walnut).

@LuFins-Dad You are correct. This thread did not directly relate to President Trump.

@taiwan_girl said in Wat DIs?: @Mik said in Wat DIs?: I think the goose came in for a sliding landing on ice, then went the other way. I think so too. Cool picture however!!! I think that's what it is as well - at least that's how it was captioned on the site I saw it. Neat picture, indeed.

@George-K said in Geezers: we are choosing between a 78 year old and an 82 year old. I think it was Nikki Haley who said something like, "The first party to get rid of its 80 year old candidate will win"

@89th There was a somewhat well known company that is trying (or tried) this. Travelzoo. https://meta.travelzoo.com I get their emails for travel deals and signed up for the (free at the time) Meta Travel a while ago and have not heard anything more since then, so I do not know if it is even active. EDIT: Poking around the webpage, it looks like they are charging people USD$20 to join, but I am not sure what you get for that money.

Tesla is currently discounting, I think. Maybe you could buy a 3 for less than $35k?

Our HOA has insurance. Looks like it covers damage to HOA property (pools, playgrounds, gardens, etc) employee dishonesty, officers liability, equipment breakdown, etc.

@Jolly said in Ukraine’s Drainpipe Drones: Not dirt cheap at $5-$10k per drone, but very reasonable for the capability. Considering the capabilities - remarkably cheap. And it takes only 2 people to assemble. What's a cruise missile cost these days? Granted, these don't have the range or the payload, but build enough of them, and you'll make an .. impact. Online discussions of fuel consumption for the DLE170 indicate that at normal rates of fuel usage it will fly for something like two and a half hours, which could take it 200-300 km/ 120-190 miles. Which is about the same as the ATACMS long-range missiles which Ukraine has been fruitlessly requesting from the U.S. since 2021. As with some missiles, the ignition of unexpended fuel may do more damage than the explosive. The drone is essentially a giant, flying Molotov cocktail. Given that many of the current prime targets are Russian gas and oil storage and refineries, the drainpipe drone may be intended as more of a Firestarter than a blaster, especially if used as a second wave after drones with bigger warheads have ruptured storage tanks.

@Aqua-Letifer said in A weird thought about classical music...: @Horace said in A weird thought about classical music...: And opera singers are cover artists, and ballet dancers are cover artists, etc. If anybody wants to tamp down the respect people have for those who choose to learn an instrument and play classical compositions as well as they can, they are free to use their words to frame that activity as dismissively as they can. Meanwhile, the performers will continue to create some art in the moment, which maybe they and others will enjoy and find value in. Just to be clear, I think a lot of great self-expression can come from playing classical music. I just don't think the entire worth of a performance should be measured by technical accuracy. No, but we lend oversized credence to extremely small differences. Over emphasizing dynamic changes… small differences in rubato.. Etc… Frankly, the closest that anyone has come to an analogy is the Shakespearian actors. But I think that we can all agree that there are far bigger differences between Michael Gambon and Anthony Hopkins King Lear than there are Van Cliburn’s and Trifonov’s Tchaikovsky #1….

Pastor Mark replied: Mrs. Kxxxxxxxxx. You and your husband are correct. Any email that is not from Pastor Chris's original address chuXXXXte@***** is bogus and a scam. There have been reports of members in other congregations receiving similar attempts to steal monies. It started a few years back, scammers started trolling church websites, using legitimate clergy names but using bogus addresses, hoping readers wouldnt notice. You caught the criminals redhanded in their attempt to steal. I'm not sure why they chose this moment to target our church. They may keep trying. Vigilance like yours is the only deterrence we have. They only go away when their tricks yield no results. Sadly, they'll only end up subjecting other congregations to their cheating scams. I advise Please share no personal info with anyone. Not even your phone number. If you get any phonecalls pitching this scam, id hangup asap. And then permanently block that number. Ive had members get scam calls, falsely claiming to be a grandchild by name, saying they need grandpa to send money orders or gift cards on account of some bogus crisis. Bottom line, follow your instincts. They have already served you well. If it sounds fishy, it is. Thank you for being careful. Grace and peace Pastor Mark
