Here we go again? https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/14/gamestop-amc-shares-jump-another-40percent-in-premarket-trading-as-meme-stock-craze-returns.html GameStop, AMC shares jump another 50% in premarket trading as meme stock craze returns The meme stock phenomenon appears to have been reignited by a recent social media from "Roaring Kitty." The man, whose legal name is Keith Gill, posted a picture on the X platform of a video gamer sitting forward on their chair — a meme used by gamers to indicate they are taking the game seriously.

I had pan-roasted salmon with tomato vinaigrette, a recipe that Musicasacra posted ages ago on WTF. On the side were sautéed haricots vertes with lemon and almond slivers.

I heard these were really spectacular. I also heard farmers seeding had their GPS systems knocked down for quite a while. I didn’t know this but GPS guided seeding is real important for accuracy and cost savings for big farms.

Now, if you want to compete for some particularly bright engineering students, which sounds more appealing. “You can attend for a discounted rate of $12K tuition plus room and board”, or “We will give you a $16K per year scholarship!”

@Doctor-Phibes said in Up Yours: @Jolly said in Up Yours: My property taxes on my home = $0. OK, but the money still needs to come from somewhere. What's your total sales tax - 9.5%? So, you're paying, you just don't notice as much. Having said that, I'm not a fan of high property taxes, it hits the elderly proportionally harder. I'd rather they taxed income. About 9.5%.

On FedEx, yeah, I have my own account too; but these days I rarely use it. :man-shrugging: Lots of things get done electronically, fewer paper documents need to be sent physically, be it by USPS or FedEx or other private couriers.

That would seem relevant. Yup - my questions as well. Infection from a suppressed immune system? Journalism is dead. we just get factoids, not stories.

I agree with this plan. I know we have discussed this issue about concert tickets, etc. I think that @89th had some good comments on this. I also agree with @Doctor-Phibes . With today's technology, cash registers are basically computers. Everything could be programmed to show the total price including tax. Not sure why it is not done this way. Many other countries, this is already the standard.

Apple's first unionized store is striking, because of the sweat shop style conditions, or something. https://fortune.com/2024/05/12/apple-store-strike-vote-first-workers-union-towson-organized-labor/

@taiwan_girl said in Tyrannical Elitist: @Horace said in Tyrannical Elitist: The American left is entirely a populist movement Do you think that President Trump is a populist? Trump is a populist as a point of fact. The term "populist" is generally used as an epithet by the left, which is strange since it is a populist movement, and has been since the race narrative formed its foundational appeal. More generally, socialism or anything derived from Marxism is always a populist movement. The most prominent non-populist political messaging in our lifetimes that had hope of winning democratically, is the individualism / become successful with hard work messaging classically of the American right. It still underpins even Trump's base, after the "swamp is drained" or whatever.

If you start collecting at 62 and invest all of it, you have to beat what the feds are giving as a return. My recollection is that that is something higher than 8%. If you can beat 8% for 8 years do it. And that is on the pre-tax amount, you'll need more to cover the tax.
