My recollection, from when I used to worry about things like this, is that in general I liked buy-backs. They are usually good for those involved. Oh, and taxes are not a given that belong to the government. They are money that belongs to the company and it's owners. Taxes are an abomination that come later. Want to balance the budget? Stop spending.

I think half of them have a speaking slot at the convention.

If the point is to help someone you care about, you instill personal responsibility and all that. If the point is to gain political power by exploiting a permanent underclass, you do what the Democrats do. The insidious part is that the rank and file progressives are too indoctrinated in the group think of learned righteousness and cannot see the system they are participating in.
