@Doctor-Phibes said in The Cut: The firefighters have managed to persuade us In fact, if you look at that list, it's the firefighter SUPERVISORS that are in more danger.

The comments at the end of the article mentioned the Wiesel 2 as a possible companion vehicle. Maybe. It is currently in production and is helicopter transportable. It would give some direct heavy fire support. But its top speed is only 40+mph. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiesel_AWC

@taiwan_girl said in If you told me 5 years ago...: @Jolly said in If you told me 5 years ago...: On a side note, we are having a devil of a time getting blood and blood products because of COVID. It is interesting. The US is very strict on who can donate blood. For example, I am unable to donate in the US because I have been in Thailand within the past 1 year. Okay, I can understand that, but people donate blood in Thailand all the time LOL In the US, I believe that they are concerned about malaria. I would think that Thailand would have some sort of screening for that? Hmmm https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4924468/

@Klaus said in Yuge here too: Why does this take so long? I've never waited for more than 60 seconds in any election I've participated in. It's New York. They're probably all queueing in their cars, honking and screaming and shooting guns in the air and stuff.

Actually relatively recent for that ancient part of the world. Still very cool. I believe I had heard of that tunnel from the series Knightfall.

@LuFins-Dad Well, President Trump couldn’t bring back manufacturing. I guess it is up to Vice President Biden to do so!

If only Mr. Trump hadn't messed up the virus challenge It is obvious now that he was just trying to kill inferior people

Seems like alot of what was written could apply to both sides. I am pretty sure the Republics would be complaining if in 2016, the opposite were true. If there was a Republic president, democrat Senate and a dead Supreme Court judge. I think it is nave to think otherwise. The Constitution has been interpreted differently over the years. (Having said the above, I am not a good historian on the US constitution, but I do know that many many very smart people have disagreed on some of the meaning of it and how it applies to laws.)

What Jolly said. You’re old enough to have outgrown the feeling of ‘but those health issues I hear others talk about will never happen to me’.

A good washing machine can easily cost a grand. It's maybe not the best thing to steal on a "$ per pound of weight" basis, but it is a reasonably high value item.

Yes, excellent. I hope Ax reads it. A few quotes to pique interest: "They cannot escape because they do not know they are prisoners." "This was what I found most jarring, the cognitive dissonance, the inability to surrender an ideological commitment in the face of overwhelming evidence of that commitment’s illogic—including one’s own misery." "That doubt, that suspicion that we may be wrong—about something we believe, about those with whom we disagree—is the only thing that can save us." The article is well worth reading, especially if you have some little background in Russian literature of the period. As with his students, it was an undergrad course a long time ago for me.

Alternate title “shallow fakes”. It was funny but he still hasn’t beaten what he did in the 2012 GOP primary. That was hilarious. Maybe just because it was all new then.

@Axtremus said in "Superspreader": @George-K said in "Superspreader": After the self-righteousness about mask-wearing I see, how can anyone take these clowns seriously? Do you know when that video was recorded? It could well predate the COVID-19 outbreak. See TG's comments above, and my response.

The world runs on oil and will for at least several decades. I understand Greta doesn't like this. But even she knows that renewables still only supply a few percentage points - and almost none at night. A miracle could happen at any moment. But until it does hold on to your oil.
