I remember reading way back that in 2000 (for example) if you had USD $3000, would you buy a new Apple computer or buy USD $3000 in Apple stock.

Depend on which choice you made, after 20 years, you would have a long forgotten computer or $$$$.

    Lol

Yes. But also I doubt the range of outcomes among public figures we’ve been following has been that far off of expectations. What’s the fatality rate for over 70s? <5% off the top of my head. We’ve had Cain die out of (I think) fewer than 20 prominent cases among that age group. (Prominent meaning we bother commenting on them here).

Democratic Michigan State Rep. Cynthia Johnson was stripped of her committee assignments Wednesday after she threatened supporters of President Donald Trump in a Facebook live video.

The Speaker of the Michigan House Lee Chatfield released a statement, explaining that Johnson had been removed from her committees and that there is an active investigation going on to determine if further action is necessary.

“Threats to Democrats or Republicans are unacceptable and un-American. They’re even more unbecoming of an elected official. Rep. CA Johnson has been stripped of her committees and we’re looking into further disciplinary action as the proper authorities conduct their investigation,” Chatfield said in the statement.

When the story first came out, I found it hard to believe that a fair number of reasonably intelligent people could get duped into doing the things he asked of them; however, after learning their techniques, it is classic story of starting with small innocent requests and gradually elevating the level of commitment until there feels like there is no turning back. Still crazy - but at least I understood how they got there.

Just go back to the original games... Track and Field and Wrestling. I’m also okay if they keep the swimming races and add on duels to the death.

On who will do the investigation:

Columbus Police had on Monday attempted to turn over the investigation to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), the state agency that typically investigates police-involved shootings. But the BCI announced that they would not be able to accept the case because of an unexplained delay in the request.
    .
"We received a referral to take a three-day old officer-involved shooting case. Not knowing all the reasons as to why so much time has passed before the case was referred to BCI, we cannot accept this case," a spokesperson for the Attorney General's office said.
    .
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said that the BCI has a memorandum of understanding with Columbus Police that says the state agency should be the first call after a police shooting.
    .
"BCI is the first call because we cannot be the subject matter experts unless we're on scene from the beginning to document the evidence of what happened from the start," Yost said in a statement Monday. "Three days later after the crime scene has been dismantled and the witness(es) have all dispersed does not work."
    .
Columbus Police said Chief Quinlan's interest in having BCI involved in the case was "based solely on reassuring the public of maximum independence in the investigation of this tragedy." The department added that the Attorney General's decision to not take the case has not interrupted the investigation.

This Yankee was walking down an old gravel road in Tennessee when he came to a cabin. There was an old man sitting on the front porch with a brown jug sitting on the floor in front of him. The old man says "Hey boy! Git over here!" The Yankee walks over, the old man points to the jug and says "You know what's in this jug?" The Yankee says "no sir, I dont." The old man says "it's moonshine. Take a drink of it!"

The Yankee tells him no, and the old man pulls out a pistol and says "You take a drink of this moonshine or I'll shoot your balls off..." that scared the Yankee, so he took a drink. It was the worst thing he'd ever tasted. It felt like it had burned his insides so badly he'd die.

The old man says "good stuff, ain't it? Then he handed the pistol to the Yankee and said "Now - point that gun at me so I can take a drink..."

The FBI's mask drops (though I don't know if the two situations are comparable):

According to these declassified documents and communications, in 2015 FBI leadership sought to give the Clinton campaign a defensive briefing before an FBI field office could pursue a FISA warrant related to a threat posed to the Clinton campaign by a foreign government. But in 2016 when there was a similar counterintelligence threat to the Trump campaign, FBI leadership failed to give a defensive briefing to the Trump campaign, opting instead to open the Crossfire Hurricane investigation and relentlessly pursue FISA warrants targeting the Trump campaign.

“There was a clear double standard by the Department of Justice and FBI when it came to the Trump and Clinton campaigns in 2016.

“These newly released documents indicate that a foreign government was trying to influence the Clinton campaign through a campaign associate and the FBI was seeking a FISA warrant. However, the Bureau, as it is supposed to do, required that Hillary Clinton be defensively briefed about the matter so she could engage in corrective action.

“When it came to the Trump campaign, there were four counterintelligence investigations opened against Trump campaign associates. Not one time was President Trump defensively briefed about the FBI’s concerns.

“Even more egregious, when the FBI gave a generic briefing to the Trump campaign about foreign influence, not only did they fail to mention the specific concerns about Trump associates, they sent an FBI agent into the briefing to monitor President Trump and General Flynn.

Minority Leader McCarthy asks why Swalwell is still on the House Intelligence Committee.

Apparently he responded to the "defensive briefing" he got in 2015, which, as the quote above indicates, is more than President Trump got.
