@mik said in More From Tim Urban: What Do YOU Do?: Like there's two Tim Urbans...riiight. Personally, I prefer to be called Tim Urbane. It's like Brown and Browne, but it's important.

I used to work in a little converted farmhouse in Cheshire, and our landlord was the Duke of Westminster. Our company was a bit of a pet project of his, and he would occasionally drop in. He was worth considerably more than DJT claims to be worth, and this is very old money - going back to the crusades. He never pulled any of that shit at all. He would drive himself, even though he had a chauffeur. He would eat sandwiches for lunch He might have been different away from home, but he seemed oddly down to earth. He owned all the villages in the area, but was almost universally liked, as far as I could tell.

Seems like they would have trotted that out over the past four years. Speaking of which, Biden called his first air strike in Syria today against Iranian backed forces. i guess they did a rocket strike against US troops.

I can understand ordering a pizza or something if you have a late meeting, but USD$13000 on stuff in 6 months is ridiculous. She should be fired.

Wasn't that one of the main arguments on why he was not impeached? LOL He was impeached. He was not convicted. These are two separate things. True. I am corrected. But one of the things said by some (alot?) of the senators is that it is not that President Trump was not "guilty" of the crime, but rather that he could not be convicted of it anymore. The time had run out. He was found to be "not guilty", but that does not mean he was "innocent". Yes, it does mean exactly that. To be found not guilty is the same thing. If you wish to believe he is guilty you have every right to do so. But neither your opinion nor anyone else's has any bearing on his legal status. I dont believe that "not guilty" and "innocent" are the same thing, from my understanding of the words. For example, a store is robbed. For no reason, police stop a car near the store and without asking, open the trunk and find the stole goods. The judge does not allow that. Says it was illegal search and anything they found during the search cannot be used during trial. They have no other evidence. So, he is found "not guilty". But is he "innocent"? I dont think so. I certainly agree that President Trump was not guilty. But it apprears that Senator McConnell (and some others) do not think he was innocent. You are never proven innocent in a court of law. Maybe we are saying the same thing with different words. But I think that there is a difference between "not guilty" and "innocent".

Ghana’s on my list of places to visit. Delta initiated a non-stop to Accra a few years ago.

Interesting article. From my friends at PTT (semi national oil company of Thailand), they just wish for a stable price, regardless of what it is. LOL

@loki said in Was Tiger running late?: There are more detailed accounts. He was pissed that some company was staying at and filming a series at the exclusive resort he was staying at. He let them know he was not told and wouldn’t have stayed there. He was 30 min behind and then his exit was blocked by the company unloading stuff which likely further spiked his stress hormones. He’s worried about his MRI and return to golf greatness. So he floors it in rage, insecurity and lateness and loose control of the vehicle. No time to even brake. Why bother with this long story, a warning to watch yourself when you get upset. It can get a lot worse and even be career if not life ending. I listened to Mark Levine talk about the accident yesterday. He's no Tiger fan, but he was miffed that people kept saying Tiger was not impaired. His point was Tiger has been through rehab and has not had apparent addiction problems since. The "not-impaired" statements give credence to something that doesn't exist. Levine is familiar with the road and said it is very easy to have an accident if speeding or not paying attention.

@jolly said in Hunter Rides Again: @loki said in Hunter Rides Again: So we have devolved to leaking people’s private lives. Texts from Cruz’s wife too and pictures everywhere and memes going viral. We have trained the next generation so well. Civility? What a joke. I’m glad I won’t be growing up in that hell. One thing we know for sure though now is that laptop is the real deal. Remember all the media around it’s authenticity? LOL Why no Special Prosecutor? Influence peddling and favors owed by POTUS ought to warrant a few bored attorneys. Because it is so easy ignore when you control the communications tower. A sane person knows better than to touch this, just pray it goes away and the odds are good when you can suppress it getting out.

@jolly said in Alberta?: What's harder to winterize, a solar panel farm or a coal plant? I failed to mention that solar is growing popularity here. It's not that it is problem to winterize the panels and associated faclities - hell, most of the panels are on the flat roofs of commerical buildings and private homes . Rather it is a problem having sufficient duration and concentration of sunlight this far north in the winter months. Winter sunlight shouldn't be a problem for Texas.

To Horace’s point, I read that the biggest driver is people in heterosexual relationships that say they’re bi. Also interesting is the disappearing lesbian. Masculine women that would have called themselves lesbians 15 years ago call themselves trans now.

@jon-nyc said in Perspective on the First Shots First approach: By the way, we (US) could have given quite literally everybody over 65 their first dose as of about two weeks ago. Imagine the current death rate and hospitalization rate if we had. It’s a great point. To juxtapose though we know that younger people are superspreaders and those over 65 account for little spread. I saw something recently on this and the data was striking. I think at the end of the day you will find however if we protected the old from dying it would be a better route -and hopefully that would mean return to the next normal faster.
