@taiwan_girl said in Masks? Lockdowns? Did it Matter?: @jolly said in Masks? Lockdowns? Did it Matter?: Did it matter? For most people, no. I think more important factors were population density, testing availibility and access to medical care. I would add to that: compliance timing (in that I mean when things happened. I believe that NY was hit quite early (for whatever reason), so by the time any restrictions were in place, it was already too late). We're Americans. It is our God-given right not to comply.

@doctor-phibes said in Maybe a little too diverse....?: @horace said in Maybe a little too diverse....?: @doctor-phibes said in Maybe a little too diverse....?: @horace said in Maybe a little too diverse....?: So both sides are bad, you say. Hm. There is a long history of anti-Semitism on the right. And now, the left is also doing it. To claim otherwise would be foolish. Thank you for that insight. You stated something that was blindingly obvious. I replied with something equally blindingly obvious. I think we're pretty much equal. I don't actually believe the left is anti-Semitic in general. But when viewed through their favorite lens, where all ideas are squinted at until bigotry is revealed, they're anti-Semitic.

This entire exercise is one of risk management. For some of us, the numbers are 1% vs .00005%. That's a huge difference. For others, the numbers might be .0003% vs .00005%. For teenagers, the numbers might be even lower.

Skimmed through it. This guys skills compared to my skills are sorta like Andras Schiff compared to my skills. I'm going to pour myself some more (cheap) Scotch.

@doctor-phibes said in Engineered: @loki said in Engineered: I challenge any human being to survive all their voice, text and email scrutiny. It is a simple task if you have the data to undermine ANYONE. - by cherry picking one sentence. We are all hypocrites. This is just classic opposition research. Making Fauci the boogeyman is hilarious. Yes, it's ridiculous. If anybody's ever been involved in a lawsuit, you'll know what an awful experience it is. You're told to leave all of your old emails untouched, and they're made available to lawyers, to do with as they will. Once it's happened, you think about those funny little emails that everybody sends and receives very differently. This! I was deposed once. It was hilarious. An email was slid across the table and the lawyer said well comment on this. I couldn’t remember the email. I said this is four years old and I literally deal with hundreds of emails a day and that I could provide many other emails that would provide context and my real point of view. They promptly dropped that line of questioning.

@mik said in Operation Frantic: What a cluster. A great idea crushed by a feckless 'ally'. But when you look at the sheer number of aircraft the US was able to supply you get a little better view of how US manufacturing contributed to victory. The Studebaker: https://www.rbth.com/history/333156-how-us-studebaker-became-soviet 152,000 of them.

@xenon said in The first bubble popping?: Inventory is super tight. The bubble could be popping, but it may also be a supply issue. Selling a house may be pleasant - but if you need to buy one in the same region, that'll be unpleasant. I’ve lived through several economic cycles. Twice you could barely give a house away. Now people will jump on anything… Both scenarios were driven by unique conditions that are unsustainable in the long run. I have no idea when the housing market will cool but I’d bet it happens in 2021.

Generally speaking, the whole eastern front during WWI is forgotten. No doubt in part because Germany was the victor and that makes for an inconvenient narrative and truth.

Nice idea Boom's superfast plans could cut some flight times in half by 2029, United said. I think things like this used to take 8-10 years Now I'd guess more like 20-30 years, if they are lucky If they start with a racially balanced manufacturing plant it might be faster.

@klaus said in Learning from mistakes: @jolly said in Learning from mistakes: a Prince Albert can of worms Not knowing that “Prince Albert can” is a thing and only knowing the piercing, I thought you’d describe a can with worms that have already been attached to hooks That said, that would be a rather silly way to go about fishing. [image: R7607e9188943ccdfc73adef7006445b9?rik=hRWmXiPRsTPrqA&pid=ImgRaw] That's a Prince Albert can. Fits in a shirt or jeans pocket. Dig up your nightcrawlers, put some leaf mold in there with them to keep them happy and you have fishing worms for the morning. It'll hold enough smaller red worms for most of the day, unless the fish are really biting. Two old black women fishing with cane poles: [image: 2591840756_7c63203fac_b.jpg] They're fishing for bream, probably bluegill or chinquapin. And I'll give you some inside baseball...When you see folks not sitting on buckets and starting to sit on the ground, it's warm enough to plant cotton.

As somebody who does post-accident drug screens, I can only tell you a significant number are positive for THC. The problem is that it hangs around for so long in the body, it's hard to know if it is a contributing factor. Opioids, not so much. They tend to be the other one I see a lot. Of course, that's just a very small sample size, in a particular part of the state.
