@mik said in Speaking of building construction: https://statelaws.findlaw.com/illinois-law/illinois-civil-statute-of-limitations-laws.html Yeah, I saw that. The clock (for lack of a better word) typically starts running at the time an injury is suffered. But that's not always the case. It technically doesn't start until the "accrual of claims," which could be the point at which the injury (or its cause) is discovered. The so-called "discovery rule" allows a suit to be filed within a certain time after the injury is discovered or reasonably should have been discovered. So, the "injury" has been ongoing for a while, however, the cause of the injury was discovered only 2 years ago.

@george-k said in Homo longi: @mik said in Homo longi: I was not aware that our origins were so murky. And, on the timescale of life on the planet, we are insignificant. 150K years? C'mon, man! And only about 10 thousand in North America.

I saw some video of them from sometime in the 2010's decade. They were all wearing sneakers and had maybe lost a step, but still a fine, fine band. It's mostly original. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother's_Finest#2018_line-up

https://twitter.com/SethDillon/status/1408114105161072644?s=20 From the RWEC: When Twitter or Facebook suspends accounts that supposedly post “harmful” commentary or “misinformation” (like suggesting that the virus may have originated in a lab) they are responding to publicly available content. Anyone can view it, and even though they are supposed to be protected by Section 230, they will always claim that they are at risk for such things showing up on their sites. It’s not a very good defense of their actions, but it’s at least something. Mailchimp, however, is not a social media site. They handle email accounts, frequently ones sending bulk messages. If you send someone an email saying that the CIA killed JFK or Elvis just came back on a flying saucer, nobody else gets to see that unless the recipient decides to share it themself. What is the justification for suspending an account under these circumstances even if the email hadn’t been satirical? While we’re on the subject, what is Mailchimp doing scanning the content of the Bee’s emails to begin with? I realize that’s sort of a naive question because we already know that Google scans everyone’s G-mail accounts. But they do it to target advertising toward you. They’re not sitting there waiting to censor you. But that appears to be precisely what Mailchimp was doing.

@aqua-letifer said in A Woke Thought Experiment: When I hear someone say, "there's nothing I hate more than sexism and injustice," I know there's a very high chance that person has a dearth of real problems, including dealing with sexism and injustice. Once heard a girl say “I hate southerners. They are so prejudiced!”

Yes, I highly recommend rescues and the like. For a young family I would recommend a retriever type. They need exercise but tend to be smart and loving.

Thought about getting a Tesla for $100/day but only need it for a few drives so I went with a $50/day Chrysler with FREE deliver to the airport, which was key for me.

Very cool opening video. In indonesia, there is a very popular shadow puppet tradition called "wayang kulit", where they tell some pretty elaborate stories in that form. Here is a short example. Lots of fun and interesting to see once. link text
