@horace said in The Commission: There is no way of preventing Portland or CHAZ type riots, since the culture accepts them as basically just and the backlash against attempting to combat them would be severe and widespread. That's why there was no response. Meanwhile we are more than happy to combat "Capitol insurrections" now that we're on alert about them. Yet the "Capitol insurrection" is the real threat? An insurrection that could have been easily prevented with basic security measures? Like I said I would support the commission if not for the dems blowing it too with the hasty political impeachment #2 event. Nevertheless this Commission is dead on arrival. I think the lessons have been learned that will be learned, lock up the people who crossed the rubicon and crack down on rioters wherever they are.

@axtremus said in Where's Joe?: @copper said in Where's Joe?: I think it seems like the VP is doing more because we have a senile president who does less. Everytime a GOP-leaning poster questions why VP Harris does something instead of President Biden doing it himself, it always come down to do this: accusing Biden of suffering from mental decline to the point of being unable to do the job of a President. He's not suffering, he is living it up in the whitehouse. When the dementia allows.

Bill Bailey is a freaking treasure. He has what I'd call "stoner humor." Dylan Moran, on the other hand, has what I'd call "alcoholic humor." Still funny, just in a very different way. Which is why Black Books was basically one of the best British sitcoms ever.

I had my ear forcibly pierced by a group of "friends" when I was fifteen. They used a freaking prefect badge, which was not particularly sharp. For a couple of years after that, I'd do it myself as a party trick.

@brenda said in Are modern women too picky?: @jolly said in Are modern women too picky?: @brenda said in Are modern women too picky?: I've been married to the same fella for 36 years. If he's not Mr. Right by now, then I haven't done my job of molding him to suit me. It's sort of like that line about teaching a man to fish, and he'll be able to eat for a lifetime. If you teach a husband how to behave, then he'll be a good husband for a lifetime. Go ahead and prove me wrong. Yeah, but most young women are not as smart or wise as you are... Let's see ... there's Mrs. Jolly, Mrs. George, Mrs. Mik, Rachel, M&Ms, Mrs. Mark, Mrs, Rainman ... I could go on for quite a while listing examples of smart and wise wives of y'all. And all are excellent representation of not being too picky. In fact...

@doctor-phibes said in The Global Tax: @renauda said in The Global Tax: No surprise here. The US seems to think it can collect income taxes based on citizenship in addition to residency. Yet another good reason not to apply for citizenship. Actaully, even if you just hold a green card, that’s enough for the USA to tax you globally.

They may also find a tree branch from which to leap onto the feeder. I’ve seen enough of these to think like . I’d jump on the roof of the feeder and then hang down by my hind legs and start chomping. That's exactly what they do. Been there, seen that.

@taiwan_girl said in Greene’s Police Violence and Wrongful Death Case: The police have a tough job. I think that almost all the time, I am a pretty kind person (I think), but there have been situations when I have got very mad. The "adrenaline" is going high. For the police, it is probably x 10 or more. But after the first stop and they got him out of the car and zapped him, then, hmmm, different situation. It's Louisiana. State troopers can be tough. Think Singapore with southern accents.

@loki said in So About This Jan 6 Commission: So, what will the senate do? Dunno. The Dems are clinging to this politically, hoping their allies in the media will cover for them enough to stave off a bloodbath in 2022. But...Latest polls show Trump leading Harris, head-to-head. (How's that, for waaay too early?) If this doesn't take Trump out of the picture, they do run the risk of making a martyr out of him. Even with drugs, I can't see Biden making 2024. If the economy gets some significant inflation, things could be very interesting in '24, from the Oval Office to the make-up of Congress.

@axtremus said in Track me not: I downloaded DuckDuckGo (DDG) browser onto an iPad and now I am doing an experiment: Open up a tab in DDG browser and keep Facebook open there, logged in to a Facebook account Open up another tab that uses DDG’s search service to search for “acoustic guitar” related stuff Open up yet another tab that uses Google’s search service to search for “electric razor” related stuff Let’s see how long it takes for “acoustic guitar” ads or “electric razor” ads to show up for that Facebook account. Your other thread made me re-find this one. How did your experiment turn out?
