@george-k said in The Chicago Way?: City Hall and the gangs. https://www.jacksonville.com/article/20110131/NEWS/801258184 We have all seen the statue of Butch O'Hare (at the airport). In one day he destroyed five enemy aircraft and, for that, became the Navy’s first ace of World War II and the first naval aviator to win the Medal of Honor. Easy Eddie, was Al Capone’s lawyer “One day, Easy Eddie decided to rectify wrongs he had done. He decided he would testify against the mob and Capone, clean up his tarnished name and offer his son some semblance of integrity. “So he testified. In 1932, Capone was sentenced to 11 years in prison. In 1939, Easy Eddie was gunned down on a lonely Chicago street. Most people credited Capone’s people for the hit. Butch O’Hare was Easy Eddie’s son. Chicago criminal connections have some strange twists

That's about $10K per person. Just give everyone a $10K stimulus check, problem solved.

@george-k said in When you have no beds, part 2: a hospital near the Dulles Expo Center The Dulles Expo Center was just a few minutes from my old house. They used to have "The World's Largest Gun Show" there every month - the Afghans would love it! They used to have a different trade show there every week - before covid. I think they are still cancelling most of them.

@horace said in Moar Space: Wozniak has been lending his name to stuff of dubious legitimacy, for many years now. I haven’t followed him so I have no idea if he thought he unfairly missed out on the top 5 badass list of CEOs and this is an another(?) attempt to play in the big leagues.

@george-k said in Apple's approach to product placement: I remember reading a story that if Apple is going to allow their products to be displayed in a movie or TV show, the product (phone, whatever) must NEVER be used by the villain of the production. It might depend on your definition of villain.... [image: 1631561128022-cac6050f-dbaf-46cc-8550-eadfa1936939-image.png]

Nice, yes it is rare I have played 517 rounds 9,306 holes in the last 2 years - 2 eagles. Of course I am a pathetic old man - not the benchmark. I just read a piece that said 1 or 2 eagles in 50 rounds might be average for an amateur. That is approximately 10X my eagle output.

@mik said in The K Shaped Recovery: I think the real opportunities are in the trades right now. And there's not much need for a degree. You just have to want to work and you can easily end up with your own crew or company. Media's huge, too. If you're a videographer/video editor, graphic designer/illustrator, motion graphics person, SEO writer, etc., etc., you can work for Capital One just as easily as you can Jake's Plumbing Services. Everyone needs an online presence, and there's a ton of freelance opportunity for those smaller businesses. No degree required. Remote work very much an option.

Good to know @mark ! In a year or two I'll also be in the market for a piano for our house and getting one with the optional headphone mode is attractive.

Funny, I recall thinking that the TV news coverage was crap with all kinds of unvetted rumors making it to the airways. Shots being fired on the Washington Mall, an attack on water reservoirs, Press buildings bing attacked, and more. I shut the TV off and went on line… To me, this event also marked the day the Internet stepped up to be the primary news and information source for most people…
