I remember reading a story that if Apple is going to allow their products to be displayed in a movie or TV show, the product (phone, whatever) must NEVER be used by the villain of the production.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Apple product placement can be considered a PSA, or even a random act of kindness. I, for one, have no issue with random acts of kindness.
The kind of people who buy into Apple are exactly the same kind of people who join religious cults and kill their children, so these kind of underhanded methods probably work real well on their feeble minds.

It might depend on your definition of villain....
