@89th said in Trump vs Biden economies.: I feel like there's a good 18-36 month lag on policies and seeing how that impacts the economy. Exactly!!! The economy and the president dont start exactly when election day (or inaguration day) and ends at the end of the term.

@Jolly said in The Mormon Way: In Utah, they have what is known as "Mormon Face". Because of the original number of settlers, plus polygamy, it narrowed down the genetic lines just a bit. Hence, after two or three generations some facial features are common in more than one family. I grew up on a street that had a Mormon Church (LDS) at the end of it. It seemed like the whole congregation drove those Ford Escort wagons.

No surprise. I agree with @Axtremus @George-K I agree - it has to be a culture change of some sort. People have accepted tipping starting at 10%, then up to 15%, then 18%, now 20+%.... No reason is cant go the other way. And again, I am not a believer that service will suffer. Everybody in someway is in the service industry. Pay them a decent salary.

ernie Sanders has praised Elon Musk for his plans to use the new Department of Government Efficiency to oversee and cut defense spending in a move that has shocked netizens and political commentators. The veteran Democratic Senator from Vermont, who ran for president twice in 2016 and 2020, tweeted hard-hitting criticism at the outgoing Joe Biden administration for managing to "lose track of billions." In his X post, Sanders said, "Elon Musk is right. The Pentagon, with a budget of $886 billion, just failed its 7th audit in a row. It's lost track of billions." "Last year, only 13 senators voted against the Military Industrial Complex and a defense budget full of waste and fraud. That must change," he said. Many Republicans have replied to his post, with Musk responding with two American flag emojis. Trump's former pick for Attorney General Matt Gaetz who stepped down amid controversy last month, wrote, "Welcome home, Bernie." Tech billionaire and Space X founder, Musk will be heading the new DOGE committee with Vivek Ramaswamy. Musk and Ramaswamy's newest office is designed to "dismantle" government bureaucracy and "slash excess regulations, cut wasteful spending, and restructure Federal Agencies." President-elect Trump was initially branded as a joke for creating DOGE which he dubbed the "Manhattan Project of our time." Trump confirmed that this unlikely pair will provide external advice to the White House on how to "drive large-scale structural reform." Sanders joined Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna in his critique of the defense spending and failed audits. "When it comes to cutting waste, fraud, and abuse and opening the five primes to more competition, there are Democrats on [the House Armed Services Committee] who will work with @elonmusk and @DOGE," Khanna wrote on X. According to Congress, the Department of Defense must pass an audit by 2028.

@jon-nyc said in The Steagles: Never heard this before today. The Steelers and Eagles merged for a year due to a manpower shortage during WW-II. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steagles Oh yeah, Steelers and Eagles fans talk about it every time we play. In fact, there’s a rumor that if the Steelers at Eagles game in 2 weeks gets moved to primetime, the Eagles plan on wearing Steagles throwback uniforms.

@Jolly Agree with all but the last one. Would have to think about that. For example, I am guessing that someone like John D'Oh pays into the social security system.

Those rotary sail installations on the massive cargo ships are likely to have a bigger aggregate impact, and they only reduce diesel fuel consumption and emissions by 6%.

You're not a real commercial music radio station if you don't play 'Hotel California' and 'Jack and Diane' at least 18 times a week

I am under the impression that Hunter Biden has been living rent free in a few people’s minds the past half dozen or more years. I therefore don’t how and why this new revelation would be have any consequence beyond gossip.

I don't like it or dislike it. It is just something where you put your head down for hours and just keep shoveling. You just do the job.

Redskins have sucked for years. When the schedule came out with the Steelers at Washington, I checked into tickets. $400 per for the cheap seats. FML.

@Horace said in Cool ad: Granted, the all-white, all-cis-hetero cast is a change. Ha, I had the same thought. But after I also had the thought that kids are growing up too fast. I have a 6 year old daughter and a 1 year old daughter, and it's weird... playing with the 1 year old is almost like going in a time machine and re-living or re-playing with my oldest, when she was 1. Anyway... I really try to remind myself to (cliche) live in the moment during the holidays, family trips, etc. It's very easy to think and plan for the future, and often wish it gets here sooner (juggling 3 kids is hard, just yesterday I loudly exclaimed during a nap protest "I CANNOT WAIT TO BE DONE WITH THIS TODDLER PHASE!!!"), but not at the sacrifice of their innocent childhood.
