Is it just me or have fraudulent charges on credit cards increased rather dramatically in the last decade or so?

It used to be I’d go years without getting a fraudulent charge, and then when it happened I could figure out how. Say a gas station attendant in Jersey or a waiter in Brazil.

Now I seem to get fraudulent charges once a year or even more often. This year it happened to both my credit cards at about the same time. I thought I’d be paying cash for everything in Lisbon but fortunately one new card arrived the morning I was flying out.

    Only non-witches get due process.

I think it goes in waves. Seems like when it happens once, it's two or three times in the next six months, then nothing for a couple of years.

Do you have a card or two kept exclusively in a digital wallet? Curious if you’ve noticed if either those or Apple Pay, Venmo (or whatever the fuck the hip cool payment methods of today are) seem less susceptible.

A string of fraudulent charges hit one of my cards a few months back. Before that, I think I have went 20+ years without incident.

If as @Jolly says these things go in waves, then I suspect it’s due to some business’ database getting hacked.
