@kluurs said in Afghanistan weeks or months from economic collapse: I wonder if we (the US) offer to purchase some of that gently used equipment. I suspect a lot of that used equipment, especially the air assets, will be the beneficiaries of JDAM presents in a few weeks. Junk iron is $152/ton right now. But the Taliban would have to bear the shipping costs...

If you pay my share of the military machine that you love so much, that's fine with me. I'll probably do pretty well out of the deal. Nah, but the draft would love to have one of your children....

Ok, I failed to see where Dominion or voting machines were mentioned in the essay. I'll look harder.

The tweet is still up amongst dozens of other photos. It may be perfectly wrong but directionally correct. Too bad they don’t teach that anymore. The zinger is the reward.

@jolly said in Samaritan's Purse: @lufins-dad said in Samaritan's Purse: Anybody else concerned about how easy it would be for ISIS and Al Qaeda to send over hundreds or even thousands of soldiers mixed in with all of these refugees? A guy named Trump brought that point up... I remember we used to have a President by that name. Those were better days. A time long past. Perhaps I'm looking back with orange colored glasses.

@loki said in Economic Masturbation: @horace said in Economic Masturbation: @loki said in Economic Masturbation: Yeah, they had the good sense to separate it from the other bill. This is DOA but delivers to the base. It’s their ivermectin. Because in your mind, ivermectin-as-miracle-COVID-cure is as broadly a partisan issue as actual legislation actually being voted on in the actual congress along actual party lines. Because you're familiar with a podcaster and maybe some Facebook posts supporting Ivermectin. Actually I probably wouldn’t have been very aware of Ivermectin if not for this place. Neither would I be. And that was more or less my point. But, you've assigned Ivermectin advocacy to a broad range of people now, and ascribed to it a broad political base. It's ok. Emotional thinking is what it is. It's how we're all wired, to one degree or another. Not me, of course - I'm better than that - but that's only because I'm good looking, and good looking people are better at everything. Bret Weinstein was on my radar a long time ago and then I forgot all about him until you brought him up. My second take on him was very different from my first. I’ve been watching his tweets of late and he seems to be pivoting. Did I bring him up? I recall Klaus and jon dismissing him and his brother as conspiracy theorists, which motivated me to look up Bret's podcast to inform myself of this shocking turn he'd taken. In retrospect, I gave too much credence to the research and expertise he brought to the table to generate his opinions on Ivermectin. I'm still not clear why he was ever so convinced, nor whether he's less convinced now. By the way, Bret is a lifelong lefty, self-described, and in nearly all of his political views.

Hasn't been a U.S. combat death in Afghanistan in what...about 18 months? Oh, and the Korean War is not over, so make that 100% back to 1950.

@jolly said in Brought to you by the maker of 15 Days to Flatten the Curve: @lufins-dad said in Brought to you by the maker of 15 Days to Flatten the Curve: This is disheartening. In Michigan, 28% of their hospitalizations and 15% of their deaths are fully vaccinated. https://www.mlive.com/public-interest/2021/08/more-than-20-of-recent-covid-cases-hospitalizations-have-been-among-michigans-fully-vaccinated.html?outputType=amp @Jolly what are you seeing in LA? Talked with a couple of docs this morning...Depending on the hospital, somewhere around 8-10% of hospitalizations are vaccinated. Ain't any beds left, though... That’s a little more reassuring, though. I wonder what’s the cause of the anomaly in Michigan? 10% of hospitalizations seems to be pretty locked in as the standard…
