@jolly said in Those darn MGATS...: With the exception of 1/6, My $0.02: The problem with 1/6 is not that it was actually no big deal. It was a huge deal. It's that participants are labeled as, I dunno, some form of National Socialists by the public, and that's neither accurate nor helpful. But the event was nonetheless outrageous. More serious: there was a big gaping hole in the city of Portland last year, and not only was the public more or less fine with that, but the city government was. That's a massive problem. It was Evergreen in city form and it's got to stop now before more people die.

@mik said in Causes of the congestion at Port Los Angeles: @copper said in Causes of the congestion at Port Los Angeles: Centralize all your data Distribute all your data repeat We made a fortune doing that for many years If you are centralized, we will distribute you If you are distributed, we will centralize you for lots of money These supply chain messes will lead to more local sourcing and the cycle will cycle Oh, so true. Mainframes are bad. You need PC software. PC software does not coordinate. You need servers with network connected desktops. Software on the desktops is too hard to update. You need mainframes application servers. Application servers are too isolated. You need the cloud. The cloud is too insecure. You need (whatever concept is repeated goes here.). Also We have too many employees. We need to use consultants. We are spending too much on consultants. We need employees. Repeat ad nauseum. The pendulum swings, and swings back. But again, I made lots of money off these cyclical fads. Well said @Copper and @Mik BTW the solution to the cloud insecurity is multi-cloud.

@jolly said in Pick of the Litter: I'm damned good at sizing people up. Yeah, based on your career history, I would guess this as well. I'm also pretty good at understanding what actually makes people happy. I'm gonna go out on a limb and further guess you didn't have to contend with a mid-life crisis.

@mik said in Thought Peculiarly Appropriate for TNCR: I think that, in the absence of real problems, you are about as happy as you make up your mind to be, I look for happiness, cuz trouble finds me without needing my help at all.

@mik said in Biden dichotomy: He seeks to end the death penalty while protecting abortion rights. Wow. So, just like pretty much every other country in the West. You might not agree with him, but there's absolutely nothing unusual about it at all.

I listened to him talk to me. Thus, I won Larry's bet. Much in the same way you "won" about the election - by cheating. You know damned well what I meant, and you know damned well I wasn't talking about a brief chat about the weather. We actually talked about politics. I believe this was in 2011 and he was on the radar as a potential GOP candidate. BTW I didn't "win" the election, the candidate I voted for lost fair and square, as did yours. Pretending to be dumb won't help you.

Hard to see Mcauliffe losing, IMO. That being said, these off-year elections do favor the candidates who have the most energetic bases, which Youngkin seems to have.
