That assumes the challenge was in any way serious. But it’s only a mockery of Putin’s manly man act.

Excellent article, George. Kotkin never disappoints when asked to comment on Russia and the current geopolitical landscape.

@89th said in The most profoundly nostalgic lunch I ever had.: The first and last photos you took are frame-worthy. Love the lighting and composition of where it draws your eye. Well, Arnaud Montagard I'm not, but it helps when the building cooperates.

Doubt they all got the full treatment. Saudi executions call for three swings, not just one. The only one that I know of that got the real deak, was princess what's -her-name, several years back.

99% chance the driver was on their phone not paying attention and drifted onto the shoulder.

Seriously though, I hate GoFundMe as it makes too high a percentage and I've seen it misused badly. MFR asked me to set it up as she was in Indy moving her mom to memory care when the fire happened. I'd rather have sharp pencils stuck in my ears than go on the internet begging for money. Despite my reservations and animosity, it has turned out well in ways I did not foresee. The kid was really down on himself for not having renters' insurance. By the end of the first night all the outpouring of concern and donations, he said he felt like he was living It's a Wonderful Life. I guess something good can come out of it greater than the money.

@jon-nyc said in The Working Class Voter: @Horace said in The Working Class Voter: Wokeness is a luxury belief, and luxury beliefs will always be at tension with working class lifestyles. The coiner of the phrase "luxury beliefs" put it this way: Luxury beliefs are ideas and opinions that confer status on the upper class, while inflicting costs on the lower classes. I think Maslov's hierarchy of needs explains it all. What's better than having stuff? Status, and the feeling of moral superiority.

He is by far one of the best comedians out there today. Followed closely by Bill Burr.
