@Horace said in The things you find out at family meetings...: Nice. Anybody here have a relative with a similarly sized wiki page? I think I'd have to go back to Adam and Eve. https://twitter.com/rasmansa/status/1510610036657164288?s=21&t=90RClfzmG-94gkI9o0Npmg

@Doctor-Phibes said in The Singing School: When I lived in Wales, I'd walk past the local chapel on a Sunday morning. The singing was always incredible - just the most amazing sounds. The entire country seems to be able to sing so well. In the pubs on a Friday night, the whole bloody place would sing along to Tom Jones. And how did the two compare? 555

My guess is it’s politically easier to upgrade “modernize” an existing plant than to build new.

Trumbull speaks about the fantastic score by Goldsmith, when the Enterprise is finally revealed in toto. And yeah, the tune is that of the theme of ST:TNG. But for totally brilliant music, watch and listen to the opening sequence of the movie, in which a trio of Klingon cruisers approaches an unknown enemy. Probably one of my favorite sequences of any sci-fi movie. How the music shifts from aggressive battle-music to something dreamy when the clip shifts to the earth-based space station. And you know how much I love sci-fi... Link to video

@Horace Another Commenter wrote that Brady likes to be "coached hard", that if he isn't coached hard he loses respect.

@George-K said in Dr. Scott Smith paralyzed himself: @Mik said in Dr. Scott Smith paralyzed himself: Wow. First heart cath. Talk about going where no man has gone before. It's really an amazing story. At the time, there were no "heart catheters" per se. He used a catheter used for urologic procedures. he was the first to develop a technique for the catheterization of the heart. This he did by inserting a cannula into his own antecubital vein, through which he passed a catheter for 65 cm and then walked to the X-ray department, where a photograph was taken of the catheter lying in his right auricle. That occurred to me. "Say...what should we try this with?". The tech is so sophisticated today.

I would immediately try and make the plane do a loop or a barrel roll. Also, probably a good thing I'm not a pilot. Looks very cool though... I bet in a few decades planes are flown completely by a computer perhaps with a pilot on standby.
