Yes, this guy was a bad character, but if he did his sentence, then he should be able to work. One way to look at it is, it was obviously a bad choice to hire him because, well, look at what he did. Another would be, well, if he was unhireable then he definitely would have robbed somebody. At least with a job, he had a chance at not being a danger to others. Can't do much about crazy, but I think it's a bad idea generally to put people into a situation in which they have nothing left to lose.
