If they had fathers, those fathers would have told them to look both ways before fleeing from the cops.

Even back in the 70s we had a 5-star cafeteria at 2-star prices. But that was only for lunch and only at HQ in Dallas. The late night crowd in the hinterlands were on their own.

It is a grounded, resoundingly human look at integrity and persevering, and serves as an authentic, affecting American dream fable that showcases one's deep drive to make something of themselves — despite their impoverished background — and to prove to the world they have greatness with them. As you can imagine, Rocky is a deeply personal movie for Sly Stallone, and it's impossible to imagine any other actor playing this role with the same astounding resonance. ...it's ultimately Rocky's relationship with Adrian that really makes Rocky such a great and everlasting movie. Through their hard-luck relationship, there is a beautifully human relationship between them, one that is emotionally felt and sincere in its presentation. This. I was going to be upset if the original Rocky wasn't listed first. I watched it a few years ago after a long time having not seen it... I forgot how authentic, raw, and sincere it felt. For example, the philadelphia morning exercise routine. Felt very relatable to anyone who's gotten up at 5am for a pre-dawn workout. Add in the struggles Sly went through to get the movie made, for it to go on and win so many awards. Great cinema.

@jon-nyc said in “Strikingly, 100% of ICU patients less than 75 years old had vitamin D deficiency”: I get you're trying to diss the vaccine, but I don’t really understand the point you’re trying to make. In my experience 'prophylactic' and 'therapeutic' are distinct and non-overlapping. A prophylactic is a medication or a treatment designed and used to prevent a disease from occurring. Therefore, if the drug is administered before disease onset, it is considered prophylactic, otherwise it is considered therapeutic. Therapeutic group are the subjects on treatment of existing disease, while prophylatic group are subjects receiving preventive measures. Unfortunately, there’s not really an established category that encapsulates what this treatment does. It’s primary benefit is not preventing infection, but preventing severe symptom of the infection (like a therapeutic) but it’s only effective if you take it prior to infection (like a prophylactic treatment). As the defining characteristic of a vaccine is the aggregate prevention of transmission and this doesn’t do so, calling it a vaccine isn’t really appropriate… So what do you suggest?

@xenon said in To brine or not to brine?: Dry brine. Put it in a plastic bag for the first night (salt will leach out moisture at first) - then flip and open up the bag the 2nd night (let it dry out) No washing before slathering on butter and popping it in the oven. EDIT: something like this - https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1012869-dry-brined-turkey Nice… Thanks!

@Doctor-Phibes said in Gee, what could go wrong?: Which is worse, a 16 year old idiot getting the vote, or an 80 year old duffer running the shop? Probably the same. But there's only one 80-year-old at a time, so there's that.
