In 1968, there were four villages in South Vietnam, where choppers were routinely subjected to ground fire, sometimes nuisance level, sometimes more. You may have heard of one of the small villages...My Lai. After Lt. Calley led Charlie Company through the village and killed durn near everything in sight, no choppers were subjected to ground fire from the four villages for the rest of 1968. Any fire. That's an outrageous example, but it explains how force can shape behavior.
