https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cly9g9g7j36o A Turkish attempt to force kebab shops in the EU to adhere to strict rules on how to make a doner kebab has been withdrawn. If the bid for a "Traditional Speciality Guaranteed" label had succeeded, restrictions would have been imposed on the types of ingredients that could be used. Germany's kebab industry would have been particularly skewered, as the quintessential high street doner has evolved over the decades to be rather different than the original from Turkey. Turkish authorities argued the doner should be viewed a national dish that spread to Europe through the migration of Turks. But German officials said its take on the kebab had become part of its own national cuisine.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6657450/2025/09/26/oscar-pistorius-reeva-steenkamp-legacy/ The mansion that Oscar Pistorius calls home in Pretoria is named after a breed of African eagle that swoops down on the savannahs and wetlands of the Kruger National Park, preying on lizards and snakes. Bateleur, in the affluent suburb of Waterkloof, belongs to Pistorius’ uncle, Arnold. The most famous and notorious athlete in Paralympic history will live there until at least 2029, under the conditions of his parole following his release from the Atteridgeville Correctional Centre in January 2024. He had served just over nine years in jail for killing his 29-year-old girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, by shooting her four times through a locked toilet door at his villa to the east of Pretoria in the early hours of Valentine’s Day 2013. The murder of Steenkamp, a law graduate, model and television presenter, was a national tragedy. The face of an anti-bullying campaign, she promoted gender equality and spoke regularly about abuse against women. In court, a cousin, Kim Martin, described the impact of Steenkamp’s death on the family as being “like the end of the world”. But her killer’s status as a sporting icon — the disabled runner who not only conquered the world of Para Athletics, winning six Paralympic gold medals, but also became the first double amputee to compete at the Olympics — turned his trial and subsequent imprisonment into global news. Yet, for all the frenzy of the coverage surrounding his conviction, little has been said or written about Pistorius since his release in 2024. There have been sightings at a church, talk of a new girlfriend — who bears a striking resemblance to Steenkamp — as well as a photograph in June 2025 of him appearing at an Ironman triathlon in Durban, an event that required consent from the parole authorities due to restrictions placed on his movement.

@Mik Interesting article. It will be interesting to have you drive another model of EV. I have hear that a Tesla is like a computer with a car attached. Other EV's (like Polestar, etc), are more like a car with a computer attached.

Lots more high-resolution graphics for just about everything you see on Word's GUI. Dictionaries, thesauri, grammar files for multiple languages. Every word and sentence you see on Word's user interface in multiple languages. Code from older versions of Microsoft Words retained to maintain backward compatibility. Expect even bigger applications as Microsoft (and many other software shops) try to ship AI models with everything.

@jon-nyc said in Rufo v Yarvin: That’s good. I won’t ruin it. I think I'm going to stick with watching music gear, formula 1 and chess streams and try to avoid all these chaps. Probably better for my mental health, which needs all the help it can get...

Not sure what the appropriate response is. For me, it's a combination of trying not to pay attention to stuff I can't change while also not allowing myself to become numb to these types of antics and lies. I do look forward hopefully to a slow healing process and shift back to some form of humility, respect, and honesty come 2028 and beyond... hopefully someone who can help stop the car running off the national debt cliff in a decade or so.

Pakman has 3.3m youtube subscribers, ben has 6.6m. Not sure who is a more mainstream internet pundit for Democrats than Pakman. According to ChatGPT, Pod Save America is the most popular mainstream Democrat pundit show online, but Pakman makes the list.

Even the title 107 days is very whiny. I'm guessing it's that she only had 107 days to try and build a campaign. Pfft... you lost for many reasons. Yes I'm talking to you, Kamala...I know you're on TNCR. You said you wanted to do things if you won, but you already had 4 years to do it. Your laugh is annoying as shit. You don't really have a track record of anything other than losing in primaries. Also, that laugh. Plus...next to Trump, as dishonest and gross as he is, you do not look like a leader of a country, you look weak. I've said it before, I love Trump's "alpha dog" leadership style.

Maybe Sept 16, 2025 was not so special after all. Saturday, September 27, 2025, is a very special day–mathematically speaking. That’s because the date’s numerals combine to form a rare numerical trick that even the most ardent math hater will appreciate. If you write out September 27, 2025 as 09/27/2025 and eliminate the forward slashes, you get 9,272,025. The notable thing about that number is that it’s the square of 3,045. In other words, 3,045 times 3,045 is 9,272,025, as Fresno State University math instructor Howie Hua explains in a social media video, describing it as the “coolest mathematical date of our lifetime.” But wait, there’s more! As you probably know, people in some countries write their dates out with the day before the month. In that case, 27 September, 2025 would be 27/09/2025. If we run the same trick as before, 27/09/2025 turns into 27,092,025. Lo and behold, that is the square of 5,205—5205 times 5205 is 27,092,025. According to Timeanddate, this means September 27, 2025 isn’t just a square date, it’s a global square date, which occurs only eight times this century. https://www.popsci.com/science/september-27-math-date/
