If parents are unwilling to have their 6-year old make a gender choice, what else can you do? Send in the National Guard.

I don't know enough about this matter to agree or disagree; but if y'all are all over Sotomayor for acting on her feelings, then why aren't you doing the same toward Thomas for doing the same thing? (He said, "Federal courts, years later, lack the competence and authority to relitigate a State’s criminal case." Pretty sweeping!)

@Jolly said in NGAD: Note in the article it talks about the size of the aircraft and drone swarms. Yup saw that. Big plane. Imagine a fighter half the size of a B2, but stealthier, with releasable drones controlled by the Wizzo or a couple of crewman. Or, as you pointed out, a team of guys on the ground. Which makes the need for a pilot or Wizzo moot. You've got loitering drones and suicide drones being used in Ukraine. I think this isn't as far in the future as some think. Look at the transformation in the last 20 years.

@George-K said in Units of Measure - British Version: I was watching a YouTube video, and a guy from London said, "I'm about 5 foot 11 inches tall and I weigh 75-77 kilos." What? I would have thought it would be more common for most Brits to talk about their weight in terms of stone than kilos. A stone is 14 pounds, so you'd say 12 and a half stone rather than 175 pounds. Maybe that's changed since I left?

@89th said in An Incredible Transition: @Doctor-Phibes said in An Incredible Transition: The right wing press see left wing conspiracies everywhere. I think this is more down to shit happening, and Biden being clueless, TBH. Agreed. Also, I cringe when I hear Biden say "...but anyway..." in the middle of a speech. It means he has deviated from the script and realizes he's making it up as he goes, which doesn't have a good track record. Both Biden and his predecessor did this a lot more than would be considered advisable. They end up sounding like a drunk uncle at a family gathering.

The jury in the Sussmann matter is a joke. Three Hillary donors as jurors. One other juror has connections to Sussmann's wife. Far too incestuous within the Beltway.

@Mik said in Russian diplomat resigns: Good sign. Of course, but probably irrelevant unless others follow. And he's in Switzerland, where it's easy to stay. Can you imagine him doing that if he were in Russia?

@jon-nyc said in Spring de-cluttering: @xenon said in Spring de-cluttering: On the topic. Anyone know of a good way to digitize old family albums? They're in my parents' closet - like 10 of them. I'm very loathe to ship them somewhere. I bought a Canon scanner for this exact purpose 10 years ago and used its built in software. It was good in that you could put multiple pictures on the glass at once and it would automatically recognize them as separate photos and save them accordingly. You would start a scanning session with a name, say "Europe trip 1974" and it would title each picture file as that with a number appended - 001, 002, etc. And it would continue that naming convention for multiple scans, until you stopped it. I found I could do an entire photo album in 30-45m, with most of the time spent taking the photos out of the album and putting them back in. Do not use a service as they won't preserve the ordering of the photos, in fact they re-order them by size. And many old photos only make sense in context of other photos around it. Example, a picture of a random house that you don't remember is worthless, but if it's between several photos of your great uncle and aunt, you figure out it's theirs. That contextual info gets lost if they are reordered. I have a Epson V600 Photo scanner. It takes time to do the pictures or negatives, but does do a pretty good job of scanning. It came with something called SilverFast, which helps to "optimize" the mistakes in the photo or negative.

Volatile enough that we called off the kitchen remodel. I’m going to paint the cabinets again and replace the hardware. The project was running from $25k now upwards of $40k. We can afford it, I just don’t think it is a good investment right now, with the possibility of real estate prices coming back down.
