Obviously I'm not going to post any real addresses so as not to risk @Doctor-Phibes showing up at 2am looking for a pickle, but... as we prepare to move to Minnesota, the housing market is interesting.

In the DC area where we live now, the market is red hot. Lots of offers per house, often waiving inspection, it's bananas.

And in Minneapolis, where we are moving (soon), we made our first formal (contractual) offer on a house last Thursday 3/4. We ended up losing out to a 2nd party who also made an offer. I wasn't particularly passionate about the house so we didn't go too aggressively, but it is interesting to note most homes go under contract within 3-4 days of being listed. It's a really fast market.

@89th Right here it is, 89th!

Mpls is too expensive for what you get, and you have the crazy city council there, and the dysfunctional mayor, and an ever-shrinking police department ...

Go south, young man! Can you work from home more now? There are lovely communities south of the Twin Cities, and it will save you money. You can still go to work when you must be on site, but you will appreciate the lifestyle of the southern area. Great places to raise kids.

          We need to talk. πŸ™‚

I've visited Eden Prairie SW of the city quite a few times with work - not so much recently, but it struck me as a nice area. Brenda will probably set me straight and tell me it's the drugs capital of the mid-West.

            I was only joking

We are looking around the west metro area, just north of Eden Prairie...like Minnetonka, Wayzata, etc. @brenda as of today I can work from home, but there’s no guarantee it will last for 10 or 15 years, so I want to be somewhat close to where possible on-premises jobs may be located. I’m also going to fly once a month, so I don’t wanna be too far away from the airport.

Once a month is no big deal for the airport. Your daily life and your family's is more important.

With the housing market being what it is, might it be wise to rent for a few months and put most of your stuff in storage? I predict a huge building boom this summer - already saw lots of it in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee - that should take some of the pressure off prices. Hot markets don't stay hot. You could end up taking a loss.

My buddy just found out that it a lot easier to sell a house vs. buying one.

He sold his house and I am shocked at what he took for it. I would not have let it go for $100k more than what he sold it for. Seriously. The market is that whacked right now.

                  I am not going anywhere.

It would take north of a million dollars for me to even consider moving.

                      Agreed regarding the airport.

I don't mind taking a loss...I'm buying it for the next 30 years so for me it's really about a place we can enjoy. For me, having a good yard is one of the top criteria.

Yeah pretty high. It's funny, there seems to be a gap between 550 and 750. In other words, lots of houses less than 550 or above 750, but not as many in between. It also depends significantly on the school district. For example, a house in the Wayzata school district might be 750 but if you jump east a mile into Hopkins, the house is 550.

Wow. That is very high. Seriously, you might want to look outside the metro area. Would a 30 to 60 minute drive to the airport be a problem? You might spend just as much time driving from west of MPLS through the traffic. SE part of the state is a 30 to 60 minute drive to the MLS airport.
The job market in SE MN is very good, too. Good schools in SE as well.

                                        PLOT TWIST

The house we put an offer in a week ago came back and said the higher offer (that beat ours) backed out so now we are under contract. We will see it in person (and get it inspected) next week.

Yes we signed a contract for a house without ever stepping foot in it or meeting our realtor.

                                        Updates later next week!
