My buddy just found out that it a lot easier to sell a house vs. buying one.

He sold his house and I am shocked at what he took for it. I would not have let it go for $100k more than what he sold it for. Seriously. The market is that whacked right now.

    I am not going anywhere.

It would take north of a million dollars for me to even consider moving.

      It's a really fast market.

Once a month is no big deal for the airport. Your daily life and your family's is more important.

With the housing market being what it is, might it be wise to rent for a few months and put most of your stuff in storage? I predict a huge building boom this summer - already saw lots of it in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee - that should take some of the pressure off prices. Hot markets don't stay hot. You could end up taking a loss.

        Agreed regarding the airport.

I don't mind taking a loss...I'm buying it for the next 30 years so for me it's really about a place we can enjoy. For me, having a good yard is one of the top criteria.

Yeah pretty high. It's funny, there seems to be a gap between 550 and 750. In other words, lots of houses less than 550 or above 750, but not as many in between. It also depends significantly on the school district. For example, a house in the Wayzata school district might be 750 but if you jump east a mile into Hopkins, the house is 550.

Wow. That is very high. Seriously, you might want to look outside the metro area. Would a 30 to 60 minute drive to the airport be a problem? You might spend just as much time driving from west of MPLS through the traffic. SE part of the state is a 30 to 60 minute drive to the MLS airport.
The job market in SE MN is very good, too. Good schools in SE as well.

@brenda Yeah keeping an eye on Apple Valley, Eagan, etc... We will see. Hopefully more houses come on the market soon. Usually peaks in May.

There's an old disused recording studio you might be able to get in Chanhassen.

                    I was only joking

                          PLOT TWIST

The house we put an offer in a week ago came back and said the higher offer (that beat ours) backed out so now we are under contract. We will see it in person (and get it inspected) next week.

Yes we signed a contract for a house without ever stepping foot in it or meeting our realtor.

                          Updates later next week!

House prices are going nuts here in the Portland, Oregon area as well. (Maybe fueled by people moving out of Portlandistan and into the 'burbs lol).

Our house was built in 2004 and cost $272,000.

Probably was worth over $400,000 by 2008 when it all crashed.

                                          Back down to $260-270k then.

Slowly crept up. It wasn't until about a year ago that a similar house in our 59-home development sold for over $400k, finally breaking that barrier.

Then a few months after that one sold for over $450k.

Our house is 2540 square feet, 4 bedroom 3 bath two-story with a living room, family room, bonus room (with closet), and a den. Lot size just 51 x 110 feet. Two-car garage.

I was guessing our house was finally safely back to $425k or more.

Then a few weeks ago I learned that one of the smallest house plans in the neighborhood (maybe 2200 sq. ft) just sold for $530k.

Holy smokes. I wish I was retired and we were ready to sell and move.
