TNCR Pandemic Weight Loss Challenge

I've officially lost 25 lbs and am pretty close to my goal weight of 145ish. The last time I was serious about losing weight was nearly 30 years ago at which time I went a bit below my goal weight and sank to 139. True to past experience my weight loss comes just a few months after tossing all of my slimmer slacks and belts with a "I'll never wear those again" sentiment.

Wow, nice going - what did you change to lose the weight?

I did a lot of what George had mentioned earlier.
-
Dropped sugar based products and most flour based products from my diet. Thus, I lowered my carb intake somewhat - but sugar is the bad boy in the equation.
-
skipped breakfast and went to 1-2 meals a day - both within an 8 hour period. Thus, no cereals other than oatmeal.
-
no snacks - lot of green tea.
Eliminating sugar wasn't too hard though I do let myself have one sugar item per week on Saturday nights as we have dinner with Mrs. K's father at that time. No cookies or baked goods wasn't too tough but bread is challenging. I switched to a bread called Ezekiel which uses sprouted grains. Not great - but keeps me sane.
Second difficult thing is spouse is an ex-baker - so she really likes to make baked things - cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies, baked apple slices, cheesecake. I'm just rude and don't eat the stuff.
Meal 1 at 1:00 pm - typically bowl of steel cut oatmeal with some applie slices and banana, hummus and carrots.
Meal 2 (sample) teriyaki chicken breast, stir fried vegetables and rice.

OK, now I'm mad. There's no way I could do this and stay sane. I've backed off on sugar and carbs, but nothing like that much.
Clearly, I need to try harder.
Seriously, though - nice going!

I've been doing this ride every day for about 2 weeks now. I've lost no weight whatsoever. None. Not one pound.
I honestly don't care, though, it's a good ride. Today I did it on the singlespeed in 95 degree afternoon heat and amazingly I didn't pass out.

This excerpt on overtraining is from Healthline -- a site I have come to trust over the years. They seem quite credible. They write, "Exercising too much without resting enough in between can lead to low testosterone levels and high levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. These hormonal changes are often associated with loss of muscle tissue, weight gain, and excess belly fat."
Here's the whole article, 13 Signs of Overtraining and What to Do About It. https://www.healthline.com/health/signs-of-overtraining

That's true, but I doubt that's what's happening. I know what that feels like and I'm more or less within my limits. 20 miles to me is nothing (and Klaus and Phibes can attest that it's no big); that used to be my daily commute.
While some weight loss would be nice, that's not the goal anyway. I just think it's funny that the needle hasn't moved at all.

I'm starting a three day fast today. It remains to be seen when I end it, but I'm definitely starting it today.

Done. 85 hours and counting. I'll break my fast later today. I lost 8.6 pounds, but most of that is glycogen and water. Probably lost 3 pounds of fat. Felt pretty good, but slightly weak. I'll do a longer fast in a while.

Cycled 60 miles over the weekend, in very humid weather. Was great while I was moving, but when I stopped I was sweating like a Christmas pig, as my Russian friend says.
I haven't lost any weight, but I have quite a sore backside - the heat seemed to impact it in ways I won't go into in detail.

For the full comedic effect, you have to say 'Svet like a Christmas peeg' in a strong Russian accent.

Finally did it. 200.
Only took about a year and I have no idea how. I've been riding every freaking day, rain or shine, but not for very longโonly 30 minutes some days. That's for mental health, though, not weight loss.
I can actually fit into some cold-weather riding crap I bought years ago when I was putting 150 miles a week in. I had filled out a bit since.
It's like the needle didn't move an inch for months and then bam, this happens overnight.

- You probably took a big dump, or...
- It's water weight you lost because you're over your period.

12 lbs would be one hell of a dump.

4 years ago I lost 40 pounds with a weight loss plan Karla represents and works with. I wound up dropping the plan, though, because the foods upset my IBS. That weight came back over the course of the pandemic... Last week my doctor told me to take Prilosec for a month as I was having more issues with my IBS. Since the Prilosec was working, I figured I would try the plan again. I lost 5 pounds in one week! :Happy Dance: :Happy Dance:
