@aqua-letifer Sounds excellent. Height profile? Gear ratio of the single speed?

    Maybe?

Slightly more aggressive posture on the singlespeed, but only slightly; I swapped out my stem to raise the angle a bit. eBike is basically straightup MTB: more upright, wider handlebars.

Gear ratio on the SS is 2.8. Gear ratio on the eBike in highest gear is 3.2.

    Please love yourself.

Rode in snow for the first time this season, a night or two ago. How I'm handling the cold weather:
head - have a winter buff that can cover my ears and head, or ears and face. Good there.
body - have a neoprene jacket I've been using for several years now. I've never been cold in it.
hands - this one is tricky. My hand circulation sucks. I got some windproof gloves and they're working, but only just.
legs - Instead of spending $65-$200 on bike leggings, I use a $10 pair of long underwear and a $10 pair of shorts for visibility. Works better, far cheaper.
feet - I tried partial toe covers. They ain't cutting it. My toes are numb when I get back and I can't move them. Had to splurge on full covers.

It's a weird feeling when I get back. My head is sweaty, my face is frozen, my back is sweaty, my hands are a little cold, my legs are warm, my feet are frozen. I feel like chicken tenders put on a stupid oven temperature: scorched on the outside, frozen inside.

      Please love yourself.

How I'm handling the cold weather:

head - Snarling and bitching and remaining viciously torqued off until spring. Just like every year.
        body - See #1.
        hands - See #1.
        legs - See #1.
        feet - See #1.

I get that. Most days in the past week, I did not and I mean DID NOT WANT to go out there. But after coming back, I've never once regretted it. So, I start anyway.

My deal with myself is I give it 2 miles. If I still felt like packing it in by then, I would.

          Please love yourself.

@aqua-letifer All seriousness, I admire that, I really do.

I've been working on building discipline and mental toughness for awhile. Made some progress, not as much as I'd like. But I let myself off the hook when it comes to being cold. I hate being cold more than anything on earth. It's my kryptonite.

But you go. I'll applaud your iron will from my nice warm house. 🙂

That's a good idea. There's a mountain hike I do where there's a shortcut which cuts it back from 7 miles to 2. I should let myself take that shortcut guilt-free, just as long as I start it.

I don't know if you'd call it a brain hack or what—for me it just seems like further proof that my present self can be shit-for-brains when making decisions—but yeah, it seems to work, more often than not. On the days it doesn't, who cares, because averaged out it still does.

I’m halfway back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I had a bad 2 months while Luke was back over the holidays then got stuck here until February… Got back on plan in early March and dropped about 15lbs. I’m hoping to drop another 15 by May 9th. Then I will be back within my healthy range (though on the high side).

Back in 2018, Karla had started an “optimal health” plan… That was really just a marketing slang for Optavia, which was just a rebranding of Medifast. But here’s the thing, it really worked for her.

                      61D1C3EA-2BB8-4847-A6E0-4B6CA9E25135.jpeg

So, seeing her, a lot of our friends wanted to lose weight. They all started Optavia, and started losing weight. I had been going at it the old fashioned way and had gone from 240 to 230, but wasn’t going any lower. So I gave it a try. Dropped down to 205 and was happy enough…

A few months later and Karla was pregnant so the sympathy weight started. Then she was put in bed rest in month 5 and the weight kept coming… Finley was born in September of 19 and I leveled off at 225. Then a few months later came COVID… I got right back to 245…

When I started the thread I managed to lose some weight but stalled. So I am back on the plan and making progress. I hope to be at 205 in 5 weeks, and after the trip I’m hoping to knock out a bit more. I’m eyeballing 195…

Not quite at the 205, but close... It's nice to be back within the limits (barely) of "optimal weight" for my height!

I haven't being doing much proper exercise over the winter, but I've been fasting up until 11.30am1 about 4-5 times a week.

Down at 168 pounds now, which is 12 pounds lost for not much effort.

                            I was only joking

I'm trying to use my treadmill as much as my knees will allow. Lifting weights every day, but that's just going to increase my weight. One door to door salesman recently asked if I had played division 1 football. I was so flattered, I bought two solar panel arrays from him. I found out at install, that my home only had one roof. Awkward.

Been eating my head off and am about to do it again. Feeling equal parts guilty and truculent.

                                    Anybody remember this thread?

I haven't being doing much proper exercise over the winter, but I've been fasting up until 11.30am1 about 4-5 times a week.

Down at 168 pounds now, which is 12 pounds lost for not much effort.

I was translating it for the less well educated types we get here.

                                      I was only joking

And they say Americans will use anything but the metric system.

I haven’t gained the weight back that I lost during my year long gym absence due to Covid. I also took off about 3-4 months when I tore my rotator cuff last June. But I’m back at the gym, 1hr15 or so 7 days a week. I’m putting muscle mass back on, and I’ve started a treadmill cardio routine for the first time since well before transplant.
