Hero Or Snitch?
-
Thereβs too little information to go on. What exactly did the kid hear that made him want to call a tip line? Was he calling the tip line out of a sincere concern of a threat, or was this some way of getting back at his dad over other crap? What exactly did the dad do at the Capitol? Waayyy too little info to make any judgement other than itβs sad.

The kid is a low-life piece of shit that could've been happy working for the Stazi.
You don't turn family in. Not unless there is a murder or rape, or perhaps another crime as serious that harmed another person. What his father did, doe not even come close.
In my world, the family would close ranks and the little bitch would be considered dead. His clothes would be sitting on the street and he could make his way in life as he saw fit.
He's only sixteen. I don't know about you, but I did some really stupid shit at that age, that could easily have got me or possibly others killed.
And you don't know what else is going on in the family.
I don't care what else is going on in that family.
There are some things that Are. Not. Done. Turning in your father to the FBI for what amounts to criminal trespass is one of them. The kid has ruined his father's life, his mother's life, his siblings lives, and his own.
For what? For an attaboy and ten minutes of fame on CNN?
I blame the parents.
Isn't that what we usually say?

Also, if you're angrier at this kid than you are at the people beating policemen to death with a fire extinguisher in the Capitol building, or kicking people in the head in Portland, then something's wrong.

No, sorry, if the courts press further charges then you are going to be absolutely wrong about that. You don't get to downplay the charges because he's a fringe member of the side you endorse.

Quite obviously that's something that should be seriously considered here.

Something no one said here ever. What his father did after the fact cannot justify what this kid did.

Didn't say they did.

I don't think the kid's a hero. My opinion on this is very much a "pull the goalie" kind of thing; I know it's ridiculous but it's what I think anyway: my take is, how bad were the father's motivations? For example, if he wanted to "stop Pelosi" or any nonsense like that, I'd need more details because I wouldn't automatically condemn the kid. If his principal motivation was to show up and support Trump, then I'd be much more willing to condemn the kid. I very much care about what the father intended. You probably find that immaterial but I do not.
-
The kid's 16. The father's old enough to be a grown up.
It does actually matter.
-
@doctor-phibes The article said 18?

So, we need to destroy families on the possibility the guy may have done something?
How wonderful. And biased. And short-sighted.

No crime had been committed when he called and his call prevented nothing. So yeah, he should not have done it. A 16 year old's judgement, or lack thereof, is not sufficient to bring the feds down on your family.
I'm writing this as of reading Post #9, so forgive if I'm repeating something somebody else said.
I agree with Mik's statement. I'd like to know more about the family dynamics before I could answer Jolly's question. That does not sound like a harmonious family unit. If the kid had issues with daddy beforehand, that puts a different light on things . . . the mother doesn't sound like she has too tight a grip on reality, either.
The one thing you can believe is that as far as da ink goes, this puppy is golden!

A police was killed in teh capital as well as the protestor lady. Makes it pretty serious to me.
And over twenty people were killed last year in BLM and Antifa riots.
Your point?

How wonderful. And biased. And short-sighted.I'm reflecting on the many warnings the feds got ahead of 9/11, and which they did not take seriously. Somebody sure as hell was "short-sighted" there, but it wasn't the people who tried to warn in advance -- including the two Israelis who flew to Washington for the express purpose.

And what does that have to do with this kid?
-
@jolly The kid supposedly warned about something that might happen, and you call the reaction "short-sighted". I'm saying in 9/11, the warnings were justified, and it was the feds who were short-sighted, and nobody has come forward to condemn those who tried to warn about 9/11.
I'm not endorsing what the kid did. But your comment that there was short-sightedness is unjustified.

How wonderful. And biased. And short-sighted.No, I already laid out in detail how I think it should have been handled.

There is not enough known about the kid, the dad, their motivations, and their actual intents to make any kind of judgment.
If the Oklahoma City Bomber had a kid and the kid reported the dad beforehand... Good job. If this kid was just embarrassed and frustrated because his dad embarrassed him because of his politics and the dad made some nebulous statement then the kid is an asshole.
There is a whole world in between those two positions, and the truth is that it probably falls somewhere in the middle and they are both idiots.

Is it just conceivable that he is neither a hero nor a low-life scumbag?
