Folks, I'm old enough to remember the checkout people at a supermarket entering each price on a cash register.

How about writing all the prices on a brown paper bag with a pencil? Then adding them up by hand.

The clerk would write the prices on the bag at the checkout.

I remember them doing that on a paper bag at a small grocery we used in Maine while on vacation. The bag was your receipt.

They also did that on the bag at a local deli.
