A number of the riots earlier in the year were clearly worse in their violence and horror than this week's outrage.
The difference is that the protests in Washington were a deliberate attack on the US government, and also occurred at least partially at the bidding of the President of the United States.
There is a difference. You can play Whataboutism all day long, and find odious things that Democrats have done, but it doesn't take away from this basic truth.

It is far from obvious to me a completely hopeless attack on the capitol by a group of hopeless Trump supporters is of more gravity than a neighborhood in Seattle being taken over, or the long-term Portland riots, stemming from leftward cultural indoctrination. So I'll play some whataboutism. Obviously, the people who tried to attack the capitol are batshit, and were enabled by Trump's election fraud claims.

The seriousness comes from the fact that the President of the United States incited a riot. Now, you can accuse me of TDS, and being a hater, and whatever else springs to mind, but this doesn't seem like an unreasonable claim. A number of Republicans have made it, too.
The fact that it was by a bunch of hopeless Trump supporters is obvious. Who else is he going to incite?
-
He made some election fraud claims without evidence and a handful of supporters took them at face value and did what they thought was right, but which was actually batshit. Sure, you can reasonably accuse him of starting a riot. Just like the left leaning racism narrative and the millions who propagate it can be reasonably accused of inciting the 2020 Floyd riots.

I suspect you will find nobody on this forum who wouldn't like to see the murderer prosecuted to the fullest extent.
So are you saying that it was a murderer who downed this woman rather than a law enforcement officer doing his duty and responding to a threat? If so then show us what makes him a murderer.

I thought we were talking about a police officer beaten to death by a rioter, with a fire extinguisher.

I think Horace was talking about the police officer who was killed
Edit - never mind, H answered

Yes you are correct. I got the threads confused. My fault, I was not paying attention. Sorry

There were several officers murdered, deliberately and with malice aforethought, during that time. Yet the protestors were deemed mostly peaceful.
So looking at the full scope of the situation only applies when Trumpers are involved?
They were mostly peaceful. Rant and rave about it all you want but it's a fact. The problem is that the fringe left believes that absolves any responsibility and the destruction of businesses is no big deal, and the right wants to condemn everyone involved, even those who tried to police their own by trying to prevent property damage. That's a hell of lot more truthful than "it was mostly peaceful so what's the big deal" or "everyone involved in the 2020 protests are criminals."
By the way, the rhetoric the left used to absolve responsibility is very similar to the story I keep hearing here about Wednesday's invasion. We tag the left and its antagonisms as an influence for what happened this week but, swear up and down the actions of the left happened in a vaccum, because all of their complaints are unjustified.
