And I wasn't trying to score points. "I don't condone the violence, but I understand why they did it" is a very common refrain.
I know people, good people, in the UK, that said it about the IRA bombings. But if a person looks at or experiences the actual results of violence, and they continue supporting it, or making excuses for it, then I believe there's something fundamentally broken about them.

Haven’t read rest of thread yet but I was just saying the same to my good buddies who are all conservative too. We all support his immediate removal by 25th amendment or by impeachment.

Though to be honest, I don’t think I want to go that far, I still believe there are enough sane people in Congress, in the courts, and in the armed forces, to prevent Trump from actually creating a bigger riot or bigger insurrection without having to formally remove Trump from office between now and Biden getting sworn in.
