What is the definition of a religious person?
-
The definition is probably more about the person doing the defining than the person being defined.
For the new left a religious person is one thing.
For the old left it is something else.

I’d say it’s someone who sincerely believes in their religion as opposed to someone who just loosely associates with a religion in name only. If that makes sense?
But it's not even clear what "religion" is in the first place. Look how freely the term is applied. People will say, for instance, that some forms of environmentalism are a "religion".

Is it more actions, (the way you conduct yourself), or is it something you believe in.?
If those two are separate things, you're just bullshitting.
Succinct. And quite true.

Some people in more current contexts are defining anti-racism as a religion.

There have been a couple of recent forum posts and forum threads about religion and people who are saying they are religious.
What is the definition of a religious person?
Is it more actions, (the way you conduct yourself), or is it something you believe in.?
Example, someone can say they believe in a God, but then go rob a bank. Or someone can say they don’t believe in God, but they live a really good life.
I’m just curious as to what people think is a religious person.
What is it that you're wanting to know - do you want to know God, or are you just interested in defining the word "religion"?

Im asking TG, not you.

@klaus said in What is the definition of a religious person?:
Yes, you did. And I pointed out that she made it abundantly clear what she was asking.
First, I know who I was talking to, and it wasn't you. Second, you don't know what I'm getting at with my question yourself, so shut up.

Some additional perspective. My family is Indian. There are a ton of religious elements that are mixed up with culture.
My mom in particular has some very "Indian" habits (rooted in Hinduism), that are actually against Sikhism (we're Sikh).
I see some parallels of that in the U.S.. Christianity is a culture for many, not necessarily a religion.
And yes, I think the left has made up a religion of woke-ism (I think John McWhorter is writing a book on this).

@klaus said in What is the definition of a religious person?:
I know exactly what you wanted to get at, and since it's completely irrelevant to what TG was actually asking it's fair to point that out.
Like I've said already, I don't give a damn what your opinion is. I wasn't talking to you, and you do NOT know what I'm getting at, so it's not your place to decide what's relevant and what's not. So butt out.

Well, if you don't give a damn then stop replying to my posts. It's very simple.

I've got a better idea, what say you stop sticking your nose into stuff that's none of your business? I wasn't talking to you in the first place. I didn't ask you a question, I didn't ask for your opinion, and I didn't ask for you to speak for someone else. What is it - are you of the opinion that what you think matters so much that you can just jump into the middle of two other people and start telling them what to do?
FUCK OFF, you arrogant bastard! If I want any shit out of you I'll squeeze your head.

I find it rather boring that you always resort to the same expletives. One of the wonderful aspects of the English language is its wide selection of colorful swear words. If it is not too much to ask, I would be delighted if you could make an effort to go beyond the F-word and your other handful of profanities in future posts.

I think the definition of a religious person is someone who loves their fellow man as they love themselves.
-
I believe a "religious person" lives a life knowing they will likely be judged, and forgiven for the negatives, maybe some, hopefully all.
It's personal spirituality that lives outside of the physical church or specific practice. So, whether Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc., the Judgement Day will not be a hierarchy of "which religion is best," but how a life was lived. The good, bad, ugly, and the thoughts and secrets in the closet that nobody knows about, except the spiritual person, and their personal manifestation of what is God.Damn. I'm kinda doomed. There was that one day where I was kind of nice. Should have marked it on my calendar.
