@Loki Season 3 was a meh, in my book as well. It was interesting, but it tried too hard to be quirky, IMO.
Season 4 is completely different, set in 1950. AFAICT, there's only one character that carries on into the "Fargo Universe" - Mike Milligan. I'm really enjoying it. Multiple storylines, some of them intersect, and I think more of them will intersect as the story unfolds (I have 6 episodes to go).
It's worth watching just for seeing Chris Rock play a hard-nosed gangster.

Season 5 is a lot more "Fargo-ish."
Much more quirky, and darker than 4 was.
But of all the things I did NOT expect to see in Fargo was Jon Hamm with nipple piercings, in a hot tub.
