Don't mess with the parents of a spiteful kid.

Reminds me of this famous exchange of letters.
The Response
Looking into this - decades later, James Bailey said, "I was all of 28 years old when I wrote that letter. I should have been more cautious. I’m just glad my mother’s not around to see that letter.
After I wrote it, I heard about it right away from [Browns owner] Art Modell. He said something like, ‘What the hell are you doing?’ He was not a guy lacking passion."
The originator of the letter, Mr. Cox, said, "I’m still a Browns season-ticket holder. I found out that Bailey and I both went to the University of Michigan Law School.
No [I wasn’t angry with his response]. I thought it was pretty cool. I’ve used that letter a couple times myself since."

@Aqua-Letifer I meant having the HOA pay your dad for filling in the hole...

I thought about that, but denial of ever having filled it in opens up more avenues of stupidity in which to explore.

Do they have video?
They have absolutely nothing.

So...how do they know who did it?

They know my dad, and his is the closest unit. That's it.

So, they have nothing other than speculation. Good luck with that.

Deny, deny, deny. Suggest nature did it.
Nature abhors a vacuum...

Be careful that your response/defense does not indirectly admit anything - i.e. work. They may want to suggest that your father is repsonsible for the cost of re-digging the hole and perhaps a fine from the HOA if that is in their agreement.
Right, definitely keeping an eye on that.

@Aqua-Letifer to add to your armory, please also start including puns. For example, somewhere in your next letter say “if you want to keep digging yourself a deeper hole...” at some point.

Oh my God yes the pun game.
My dad's reluctant to commit very much in the way of effort to this, but my mom agreed to mail out anything I give them. And I give it a good 80 percent chance they get a reply back—the president is the kinda guy who wants to win!! So, the next one is going to be full of "evidence" in the form of attachments, which will include:
- a photo of the HOA office, captioned with its title and address.
- a picture of the hole. Or any hole, really, I don't care.
- a picture of a "worker." Like, a landscaping guy stock photo. Preferably of a dude smiling with a shovel.
- another stock photo of a guy signing a contract to illustrate what signing a contract looks like.
- a mugshot of my dad that I have for some reason after he renewed his soccer referee certification.
