We'll let POTUS know later

George, so the Pfizer CEO never called Trump?
-
-
By the way, George, that link in the Federaliast doesn't show them taking Warp Speed funding, it describes a contract for future sale that is conditional on FDA approval.
So they were correct in saying they haven't gotten any funding from the Feds for this.
eta: same with your link.
-
The U.S. government will pay the companies $1.95 billion upon the receipt of the first 100 million doses, following FDA authorization or approval. The U.S. government also can acquire up to an additional 500 million doses.

I have no idea who called whom. What is clear is that the administration learned of it from the news media according to Azar, and that happened after the Biden team was informed.
A senior White House aide told RealClearPolitics that the administration only learned of the vaccine from news reports. Biden, meanwhile, was notified the night before. He offered congratulations and heralded the breakthrough as a “cause for hope.” But he told the country to keep covering their faces.
I wonder if they have proof that Biden was notified before.

If so, that's truly, truly shitty.
But exactly what I would expect...

Oh come on, guy. They got nearly 2 billion dollars before they even had a product to sell.
-
Ah, no they didn’t.
Read the fucking release. Or even just the quote I lifted from it.

@George-K said in We'll let POTUS know later:
I didn't comment on funding, only on notifications.
You’re right. I just happened to see it mentioned in the link.

I read the fucking release. I also read the fucking back tracking the fucking CEO of fucking Pfizer was forced to put out when they got fucking called out for fucking lying.

It's still not clear that Biden won anything.
Y’all can take as much time as you need to traverse the stages of grief, but you can’t expect the world to pause while you do.

So here’s the company’s statement:
Pfizer is one of various vaccine manufacturers participating in Operation Warp Speed as a supplier of a potential COVID-19 vaccine," Castillo said in an email. "While Pfizer did reach an advanced purchase agreement with the U.S. government, the company did not accept (Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority) funding for the research and development process. All the investment for R&D was made by Pfizer at risk. Dr. Jansen was emphasizing that last point."
So yeah, “participating” in that the purchase of the doses, assuming it occurs, will come from that money.
But Pfizer is correct that they received no money. They got a PO. With conditions that haven’t been met yet.
-
So that means it's ok to inform Biden before POTUS?
-
Seems disrespectful even for a lame duck, but not particularly consequential.
I'd like to know his motivations. Might be something as simple as Biden could be trusted not to announce the news before the company did.
