I suspect Grant's memoirs and Obama's latest tome have similar inspirations... $$$$$$$$$$$$.
The rest of that statement is that Grant used the income he got to pay off bills and creditors due to his horrible investing skills and attention to crooks and grifters. He probably never visited Martha's Vineyard.

How much is too much? I think President Obama has made millions of dollars already.
Of course, it is like the saying - “what is the definition of rich?
Someone who has more money than me!“
I think very few people think themselves rich.

It's a shame that BHO isn't here to tell us how much is too much.
However, he did say "At some point you've made enough money." Apparently, he hasn't reached that point yet.

Grant knew he was dying and wanted to support Julia.
But he was pretty broke and, IIRC, lived partly off the help of Samuel Clemens.

The old saying goes How much is enough? Twice what you got.

Just as long as he doesn't start bloody painting

Yes. He got ripped of by a publisher, iirc, and Clemens helped him out of that bind, and got contracts to get his stuff published as he wrote them.
And, he was dead within days of finishing the memoirs, unable to speak because of his oral cancer, and in horrible pain.

So what if they do? You a have a problem with writing books to make $$$$$$$$$$$$?
That's a democrat thing
Remember the Don't Buy Books by Crooks movement.

At what point have you "made enough money?"
"Do you have a problem with writing books to make $$$$$$$$$$" and "at what point have you made enough money" are two separate questions.
I can tell you right now I do not have any problem with people writing books to make $$$$$$$$. I hope you can also tell me whether you have a problem with people writing books to make $$$$$$$$.

Of course I don't.
Since candidate Obama declared that there is a point at which one has made "enough money," I'm simply asking where that point is.
Do you have an opinion?

To benefit only oneself, I say that that is when one has just enough to let one lives out one's natural life at the standard of living that reflects the median of fellow men.
To benefit one's fellow men, I say that that is when one has just enough to raise the standards of living of one's fellow men by the amount to which one aspires.
What's your opinion for that same question?
-

On Martha's Vineyard on a $12M home.
Okay, then.
By what order of magnitude do you estimate BHO has exceeded that?
Should he donate the excess to charity? To reduce the national debt? To give it to you?
How about me?
I'll take it!

You neglected the second part of my answer about making money to benefit one's fellow men. Have you established that BHO is making all this money just for himself? Do you know he will not be donating profits from his books to charitable foundations?
Still, let's see if you have an opinion on the question of at what point one has made enough money.
-
@Axtremus said in Number Three:

Nope. I'll let you do that.
Let's see BHO sell his Martha's Vineyard house and move to Austin in Chicago.
Hell, let's see him move to Evanston or Hinsdale.
When he does that, I'll give your comment some (moderately) serious consideration. Until that time, you're just blowing smoke.

I asked the question because Obama made the statement. You're one of his supporters.
What is that point?
Ah, I see, you personally do not think BHO was right with that statement, that you do not think there is a point when one has made enough money. That's fine.
