If this wasn’t contemplated and even planned on some level it has to be something I have not seen in modern times. I mean so far I am thinking there has to be more to the story.
To be clear I am not doubting you Aqua, it’s just beyond comprehension.
There's more to the story alright, but it's just garden variety stupidity. No big secret at all. But for very complicated reasons it was reasonable to hire someone to run the place who has absolutely no idea how to run anything. From their perspective, how they went about it made sense enough.

How many people work there?
-
@George-K said in Work update.:
Wow. Just amazing.
A THIRD of the staff?
A third of them, who have set up several Skype calls to draft the letter, and fully understand the risks involved in doing what they're planning on doing. The board doesn't know any of them from Adam.

I've seen it before. It happens when competent people are hired and then ignored by incompetent management.
I'm so done. I'm spending a good, long time away from Game A employment. I look at job applications and immediately feel sick to my stomach. Literally I feel sick. I'm going to give ad-hoc work a go for awhile. I've done it before, I have no idea why I stopped. The false promise of more security I think.
Man, was that ever a stupid decision.

Game A employment
What does "Game A employment" mean in this context?
Don't think I have come across this terminology before. -

Not necessarily. You might just need to be more particular, ask deeper questions and get a little lucky. That said, I always enjoyed working ad hoc, but MFR provided the insurance etc. so I had that luxury.

Don't think I have come across this terminology before.Working for the sole purpose of earning a living, basically. Today, there are many ways you can go about that, so choice is something more people should consider but don't.

@Horace said in Work update.:
The immigrants consider it more than the inhabitants, strangely and interestingly.
Yeah. I blame a holdover from boomer attitudes, but only because that's where I kept hearing it from. I don't know whether that's representative.
-
@Horace In many developing countries the link between hard work and money is broken.
So - just having a functioning economy where you can get paid for work is so so so so much more security than they're used to. Defined hours and a consistent paycheck can feel like a relatively incremental thing on top of that.
-
What other reason is there to work than to earn a living?

It can be considered the exact same here, depending on your point of view. It was one of Howard Zinn's favorite arguments: work hard in America and get ahead. But for dishwashers, house cleaners, etc., it's "work your ass off and stay there."
Yeah, I know. Market forces. And I agree that at least the market gives you options. But capitalism ain't no meritocracy, either, when comparing across industries. It's closer to that on a company level but even so, quite obviously there are dysfunctions.

Other way around. It's not that there are other reasons to work, it's that there are many, many more ways to earn a living, thanks to the internet and its distribution model.

It's a shame you're white, you could have went to work for the government...
