Agreed. The play that @Horace mentioned above... this is a pitch runner, with a horrendously short lead, the 3rd baseman isn't covering the base, and a run at home wins the championship. Not only was his lead bad, but he slid at home on a force out...should've run through it like 1st base.

For those not following, the catchers foot came off home plate but got it back on with the runner's foot less than 1 inch from the plate. That would've been game over. Even more of a tease, the collision in left field where the guy caught the ball.... most of the time that type of collision results in a dropped ball (and again, Toronto would've immediately won the game).

Anyway...it was a fun series, but what a heartbreak from blue jay fans.

I think if the runner had gone head first he'd have been safe.

Yeah very true. Of course hindsight and all that... but seriously why did he have such a short lead? Maybe I should watch Horace's video.

I see, he didn't want to get doubled off if there was a line drive.

Even worse... he was wearing a sliding glove. WHY did he slide feet first? I'm not even a blue jays fan, although I did want to see some of their players win it (and Mattingly as a player/coach/manager for 39 years without a ring). Just maddening.

The frustration kf these sorts of losses where the woulda couldas are so blatant is another reason I am uninterested in investing in sports fandom. The highs are not worth the lows.

The only defense that they didn't want to get doubled off is not backed up by stats. The green dots are any line-drives by the batter at the time. Zero percent of the time does he line the ball towards 3rd base, which makes sense since he's a lefty hitter.
