Yeah but people who buy teslas are already resigned to a bunch of trade offs. They’ve already decided they are interested in a very nonstandard car.

Not sure the (say) Honda CRV drivers are going to be of the same mindset.

I know my next car will have wireless CarPlay.

If you don't take it, it can only good happen.

Seems doomed to fail. There’s no way the car companies are going to compete with the open ecosystems of Apple and Android and most customers simply won’t buy cars that don’t seamlessly integrate with their phones.

      Totally agree.

I remember having a similar argument with Loki about in-car navigation systems. There was no way Audi or Lexus was going to keep up with Google. Just was never in the cards.

My 2014 accord doesn't have it and I don't miss it. I have had some nightmare tech support experiences with my mom, trying to get her luxury vehicle to pair with her iPhone. And the process with rental cars is also always unpleasant.

I didn’t miss it before I had it either.

            Same with a backup camera.

I don't need it unless I'm traversing an area I don't know well. I'm seldom in a car long enough to care about what music is playing. I usually listen to NPR anyway. Although on last year's rental of a Cadillac XT4 it was pretty cool because the screen went all across the dash.

I take advantage of CarPlay when it works without too much trouble, otherwise I fallback to putting/attaching my iPhone onto the dash and get on as if CarPlay has never existed.

They'll have to pry CarPlay out of my cold, dead hands.

I'm never going back to listening to American radio stations. It's no wonder you chaps shoot one another so much.

I don’t actually use CarPlay, just connect via Bluetooth… But that being said, having watched Karla use Android Auto, it sucks and are basically all Google Apps, anyway…

Still, it seems like the easier solution is negotiating data sharing.

I use CarPlay each time, and in rental cars is easy to connect 90% of the time. It’s easy to have a nice map interface, messages, podcast, and we use YouTube Music.

I rarely have an issue with rental cars. If I do it’s that there are no more ‘slots’ and I have to delete a few former renter’s iPhones from the list.

I always delete my phone info when I return it.

If you don’t, I will. Eventually.

One rental car only had USB-C connections. That one threw me for a loop since all my cords were regular USB connections.

I hate it when I buy some electronic thing and it gives me a USB-A.

                                  Seriously? In 2025?

That grill roomba was like that. Reminds me I owe them a shit review on Amazon. I should wait until spring so more people see it.

I destroyed the entire Instant Pot company with a single review of their garbage air fryer. Be careful. Once you've killed, it marks your very soul.
